Application turned down

I have been refused cards in the past and never bothered to appeal the decisions.

However I was wondering on a resent letter I had from the Halifax after they declined my application they say that if I have further informaton that I would like considered to contact them in writing with the details.

Is this a good sign or not, has anyone been sucessful with an appeal to the Halifax.

I have appealed by the way nothing ventured no 0% balance transfer

I think that what they are doing is giving you the opportunity to view your credit file and query any errors that could have ben made by other creditos.

Once when I applied I was declined and when i took a look at my credit file not 1 but 3 creditors made major boo boo's on my file which I queried and they reversed/changed. Then went back to the original lender and they took another look sent them my evidence to prove the errors that were made and they approved my application. Supporting evidence is good with your appeal.

Thanks for the reply I have copies of my files (online) from the big 2 CRA's and they are good they do not appear to be the problem and Iv'e banked with the Halifax for years I even went as far as telling the Halifax in my appeal letter that I wanted a much lower credit limit than the card I wanted to replace

So it was for a very apparent reason then.

good for you in asking for a lower rate card.. also tell them that you have been a customer for years and you will not hesitate to move your accounts to a bank that can and will provide you with the services you require...

what we need to remember with the banks is that they need our custom more than we need their products... if they do not give you what you need simply move.

Yes I was thinking that moving was the next step but to be fair Halifax have been good with me, but having said that I have been a good customer of theirs over the years so I'll be on the look out for a new current account if I dont get a card.

One further question re my declined Halifax card I have just checked my credit reports on-line with the two main CRA's and see that NO SEARCHES/CHECKS have been made by the Halifax on me, is what we see on these reports the same as what the Banks/Credit Card companies see or is there some sinister info held on these reports that only the credit grantors can see.

I am not so sure about this comment. As long as there are many successful applcations, I am sure the banks will not be losing any sleep about turning down or losing 1 customer.

Update made a phonecall and they refused my appeal no reason given so there you go onward and upward. Only good thing for me is all my insurances come up for renewal next month in total about £120 a month all with the Halifax and have been for 15 years so that £120 per month is going to be moved. cant wait until they ask why.................

A reply to you, when you said: what we need to remember with the banks is that they need our custom more than we need their products... if they do not give you what you need simply move.

Working for a bank, when customers say they'll move if they don't get what they want, we simply say in the nicest possible way - If you'd like to move that's your decision, but that won't affect the way you get treated today, as everyone is treated fairly. Ie, a guy called a couple of days ago to get a refund on going over his credit limit (the charge was £15), he said if we didn't give a full refund and make sure it doesn't happen again he'd go elsewhere. This customer had already had LOADS of refunds in the past 6 months, so wasn't entitled to anymore and so I declined him and he said "I promise you, I will move" and I spoke with my manager and replied back with "That's not a problem sir, once you've paid the £15, you can move to any bank you like, please just make sure you cut up..... etc etc"

Sometimes, demanding to close accounts goes against you. One tip that goes for you is : "I will take this to the Ombudsman" 9 times out of 10, you say that you'll get a refund.!.
