For all the praise given to Vince Cable...

...how many of you will actually vote Lib Dem?
I notice several topics have praised Vince for his foresight of the current crisis as well as his straight-spoken well thought-out views regarding how to improve the current situation. I'd like to add that the Lib Dems were the only party during the good times who wanted to raise taxes to improve services, and the first party in bad times to say they would lower taxes.
And yet I see little chance of an increase in seats at the next election! Which is a shame - they would make a better opposition party than the Torries or Labour!
FFIW, I have always been a Lib Dem voter as they always seemed to have the right policies for the time... now more so than ever.

We do. Most of the westcountry is yellow.
However, for how wonderful cable is IMO let us not underestimate the clownliness of clegg - who would be our leader.
I do lie the system in the USA where the leader surrounds himself with the best rather than party politicians only.0 -
Cable has been right, but he's been hailed as a messiah only because so many MPs are so clueless. Many people saw what was coming, and understood the reasons for it. We were living in a deeply flawed era, where money lost it's meaning. It doesn't take a genius.
No, I won't vote Lib Dem. They serve a purpose in that they keep the big dogs in check, but I don't think they have enough pragmatism to run the country."I'm not even supposed to be here today."0 -
The problem with the LibDems is two-fold:
1. At a local level they say whatever and work with whoever to get into power. They appear to stand for nothing other than achieving office. At least with the Tories and Labour (and the SNP and Plaid if you are in those parts of the world) you know what they stand for. The LibDems - if indeed they do have any principles - don't appear to display any.
2. They are not an alternate government nationally. Regardless of who you vote for in a General Election you will get either a Labour government or a Tory government. They could promise the moon on a stick and they still have no chance whatsoever of even finishing 2nd.0 -
I do, although I do realise that one man doesn't make a party.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

It really does depend where im living.
I said I couldnt vote Labour after what theyd done in the last election, but was living in Bethnal Green and Bow then and COULD NOT AND WOULD NOT vote for George Galloway. Oona King was a good MP, even if she was pro war ( which I was very much against) Obviously Galloway got in but I was not going to help him and his eghotistical campaign( check out how little he actually enteres the commons the guy is literally a waste of oxygen)
You have to balance it up. If Im in an area where the choice is realistically between Labour & Conservative,I said I never would but I think I would vote Conservative. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
We do, like most people around here - Vince Cable is our MP

Interesting. I come from a long line of Labour party supporters and members. I will still vote Labour in the local as I know they are very hands on and hard working. There is no way that I will support labour in the general as this lot have proved a disaster. If Vince Cable was the Lib leader then I would be tempted. Conservatives forget it!
However Vince like myself and a whole bunch of others predicted that the housing boom would end in tears. I don`t know how to fix it, does Vince?0 -
I would never vote tory after Thatcher - and I would never vote labour because they always make a mess of things. I liked the lib dems when they had Charles Kennedy, but when they dropped him I went off them.
Is there anywhere I can read what Vince Cable actually said about all this?0 -
I will not vote Labour. I hate what the power-mad Brown and his cohorts have done to this country in so many ways (details too long and have been discussed many times on this forum). I'll be inclined to vote for the Lib Democrats just because of Vince Cable.
I think the leadership of the Tory party is totally wrong for this time especially – modelled on party leaders like Blair of the 'no more boom and bust' era. We need older, more experienced politicians who can give us confidence and who appear to be on the side of those who did not over-borrow or go in for speculative gambles on the housing 'market', etc, and who will not reward those who have been (often) criminally irresponsible over the last few years. Cameron is just not doing it for me.
The Lib Dems are also pretty good in my area (Richmond Park) – certainly much better than anything I have ever experienced under Labour.0 -
The problem for the Lib Dems is that if he is so good why didn't they elect him as their leader? If the people in the party can't even spot the talent then it doesn't say much about them. Instead we got Chat show Charlie, then Ming the Merciless and now "Calamity" Clegg.0
