wedding playlist

Having finally convinced our family that using CDs for your processional and recessional music in a civil ceremony is not naff and that money is better spent on food and drink than a harpist we are now left with the dilemma of what to play. Obviously nothing with a religious reference. What have people played in their weddings? PS: We are both children of the eighties (well we were born in the seventies but did our growing up in the eighties) so we're more into ska than slushy love songs, but we don't want to give our elderly relatives too much of a shock, they're still getting over the fact that it isn't a church wedding!

  • I know someone who walked back up the aisle to Van Morrison "Have I told you lately that I love you?" - that was nice.

Or you could take a tip from Muriel's Wedding and have the bride walk down the aisle to "I do" by Abba???
"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."

I haven't seen Muriel's wedding but one track i had been thinking of was Van Morrison's Sweet Thing. My Stepdad looks a bit like phil collins and is a massive rod stewart fan, so we've been thinking about those artists too. Think the phil collins would be a bit weird for everyone though!

We had "all I ask of you" from Phantom of the Opera played at our due to the fact that OH proposed to me during that song at the theatre in London - ahhh bless
    I haven't got one!
  • we walked out to Queen - crazy little thing called love, and did classical music for beforehand - you can walk in to the traditional bridal songs because they are actually classical pieces and don't have religious references.

    Hope that helps.

What about songs that are personal to the 2 of you and mean something specific to you. Like one that reminds you of a holiday together, or the night you met etc?

If it's a longish song, you'll need to plan at what point you'll walk in. I had a short walk down the isle and a long song. I stood ages at the alter before it was finished. If I'd thought it through, I'd have come in a little while into the song.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.
  • We had friends play Years from now - click here actually in the registry office which was ace (and free! :D )
Going in - With These Hands - Tom Jones click here
Going out - For Once in my life - Stevie Wonder click here

But a most beautiful song is Grow Old With Me - Mary Chapin Carpenter click here but because it's got "God Bless" in it we weren't allowed it.... but it really is the most beautiful song in the world.......

How about "Bring Me Sunshine" (Morecambe and Wise version, obviously :D) or "You're my best friend" by Queen. Mmmmmm. Wish I was having a civil ceremony now!

I walked down the isle to This Mortal Coil - Song for the Siren and came back up to Morecambe and Wise 'Bring me sunshine'.

We also prepared a few songs for our guests while they were waiting for me to arrive.

    Zero 7 - Destiny
Nick Cave - Into My Arms
    Cranberries - Dreaming my Dreams
Richard Hawley - Baby Your My Light
    Enya - May It be.

Make sure there personal to you, we had our first dance to The Smiths - There is a light, not everyone's cup of tea,but it couldn't have been anything else for us.
