Not heard that about the laces myself - The main concern is overall abrasion resistance & a good firm grip around the ankle to stop the boot sliding-off/protect the ankle in an accident. I've seen lace, zipper & clip boots that comply with the motorcycle safety standard.
TBH, I somewhow doubt a lace caught in a chain would be much risk - It would be almost immediately mulched by the metal?
Anyway, bear that in mind when you tie your laces. And tie them properly!

Meh, I just always do a double knot.I didn't think you were suppose to wear boots with laces incase they came un-done and got caught in the chain.....is that not the case ?
