you cannot buy a helmet online unless you have tried on that exact model in real life and know your size in that make and model.

And you need it so when it's on and you try to wiggle it, you can't , it moves your head with it

I'll try to be as careful as I can :D Do you know what sort of gloves i'd need because all i've seen is the big mens ones and they would be too think for me

Gloves are really important, as others have said. Personally, I'd not recommend buying any without having tried them on first. Go to a motorcycle accessory shop and try on several pairs until you find some you feel comfortable in and have sufficient mobility to operate the indicators etc. on your bike. Don't be tempted to use other types of gloves, e.g. ones meant for skiing as they won't protect you properly if the worst happens.

Enjoy your moped and ride safe!

Hi I have found this crash helmet for £25...its new does this seem ok or should there be something else I need to have a helmet have ?

Some will say it's OK, but there's no way I'd be riding round with a £25 lid on. My helmet cost £200, I reckon my head's worth at least that much :)
  • The motorcycle offers in Aldi and Lidl, usually are around mid to late March, you can normally buy a full set of equipment at reasonable cost.

I hear what you are saying but I have not even ridden a motorbike as yet so don't know if I will like it (I am hoping I will) so I didnt want to spend a fortune getting kitted out to give it a try !

ahill, if you do a CBT they usually provide a helmet. All you need is a pair of gloves and some warmish cloths. Most of the CBT is spent on a car park so it will give you a good idea if you like riding.

Pogofish, please remember that the majority of accidents happen close to home. You are far more likely to have an accident going to work than you are on a longer trip.

Oh I am very aware of that - Learned the hard way TBH, on spilled diesel & gravel - Ouch! But thankfully with no major injuries - Just bruising & grazes, which is of course bad enough.

Saying that, long ago I started riding with the assumption that every other road user is either blind, or a complete tool, hell-bent on doing me harm.

Which has served me fine to this day! :)

Or is this one below at £50 more of the type in thing I should be looking to get ?

    http://www.topgearsuperstore.com/-motorcycle-helmets/nitro-crash-helmets/nitro-n1200vx-black-silver-blue-p-4968.html

I want to be as safe as I can for the best price I can in true money saving style...

Also got a question about boots are ankle one's ok to get or is it better to have longer one's ?

    was thinking about these ones

    http://www.fastbikebits.com/acatalog/copy_of_Akito_Boots.html

Its difficult to say - Price is far from a fully reliable guide. As mentioned, getting a safe & comfortable fit is also critical & if a top-name/price lid will not fit you properly, it is no better then the cheapest/crappiest no-mark lid.

Here is a link to the current safety ratings for lids:

    http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/search/results/?sort=manufacturer&dir=asc&manufacturer=0&type=0&rating=0&size=0&price=0

OK, I know there are critics of these tests but that is true of all others as well. Still interesting however - You can see that some of the most expensive models perform no better or worse than some of the cheapest. Traditionally, the ACU Gold mark was given more kudos than the kitemark but I have no idea if that is reflected in any sort of fact.

Boots - I tend to wear ankle boots day to day. For the last few years, I've found the Lidl lace-up bike boots to be particularly good value but currently I have a pair Hein Gerike lace-ups & Kefas army boots - Which are very solid, but comfy & have a much better sole - You can also walk miles in them. :)

This, but £10 cheaper in a local surplus shop. :)

For longer rides, I have a pair of Datoyna Roadstar, which are a less work-friendly but superbly comfy & tested protective design:

Have to say that I don't rate the current range as highly as I used to - The sole is grippy but not so good for walking on as the old design & I needed them re-heeled within eighteen months - my first two pairs lasted about 12-15 years between them & frankly saw a lot more regular use. At that price longevity matters!

I didn't think you were suppose to wear boots with laces incase they came un-done and got caught in the chain.....is that not the case ?

Thanks for all the information given here I am learning a lot.
