I think this situation is terrible.
They are in effect forcing you to change your phone which is something that you may not want or be able to do. This is a shocking thing if you have been a loyal customer for years.
I can sort of understand them wanting to change the price of calls etc, but to make it redundant is terrible.
I am presuming your phone will not take the new sim card.
Post bac and let us know how you get on with it.
I would be emailing them if I were you and requesting some sort of compensation for this inconvenience. Its better to be late in this life than early in the next one.

My 'u' phones are going and also my father-in-law's Cellnet/O2 free best friend. I intend to try and get replacement phones from o2.0

The phones supplied with the Easylife, U and Pay & Go Bestfriend were customised. This means that the existing SIM won't work in another phone.
Will O2 replicate the tariff on a new SIM then?0 -
hi just of the phone to 02 they dont want to know ,they say the phone is 5 or 6 year old and I will just have to replace it at my cost ,not very good to make you stay with them ,but I will keep at them am not giving up that easy, anyone been able to get a new phone from them let us all know how you did it0

They were talking about phasing these out 4 years ago - runs on obsolete servers and nobody makes compatible phones (perhaps they've finally run out of sticky-tape). Also, they were much easier to 'chip' to get perpetual credit although some stuff was done at the network end to (try) cut down on fraud - dunno how successful it was though.0

How did u find out that they were stopping these phones? Both my parents have got the easylife ones so i presume they won't be able to use them after the end of May? Will they be told or will they just cease to operate?0

just to let you all know that phoned 02 today and because we only use our U phones for emergencys, ie we have 3 phones 1 for the car, 1 for the van & 1 for the sons scooter, that we are not going to get a free phone, even though we have kept to their t&c by making and receiving a call at least every 6 months. This is very unfair to us as these phones cant be used with any other sims or the sims cant be used in any other phones and the phones are like new so is there anyone out there know were we stand in the legal eyes, that 02 are picking and choosing who gets a replacement phone and who does not ,a very unfair way to do business.0
