Which PAYG deal, please?

Hi

My Mum needs a sim card with no tie in and no fixed monthly payments. She needs them mainly to receive calls and only make calls in an emergency.

I am totally out of touch with what deals are out there and I've made a couple of calls to Orange and T-Mobile but they are of course trying to promote their own products and its difficult to compare across networks with zero prior knowledge. It occurred to me that the advice of the experts on here would be of more value :j

If there is a brilliant payg plan out there which comes with a free phone I'd be glad to know (not fussed about high tech but a free handset would be a nice bonus) otherwise my Mum already has a rickety old phone which works just fine!
The reason people don't move right down inside the carriage is that there's nothing to hold onto when you're in the middle.

In my option, I think Asda Mobile (8p/4p) would be the best in your mum's case as she does not make that many calls. Coverage would be decent as Asda uses Vodafone network. There aren't any free phones for PAYG customers in general. Just use the old phone (if it's unlocked or originally on Vodafone) or get one of the many cheap unlocked phones from Carphonewarehouse.

if Voda signal is crap, try Ikea https://www.familymobile.co.uk who run on T-mobile signal, slightly more but if cheap & signal is what you need Asda & Ikea fufil

I can vouch for Ikea customer care being the best I have had since owning mobiles in 1993
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)
  • If your mum makes mostly calls to a couple of numbers it might be worth looking at Lycamobile
    https://www.lycamobile.co.uk
they run on the network Orange network.
Cheap 10p for 30 minutes between Lyca numbers and 50% top up bonus.
You can get a couple of SIMs from Ebay for 99p delivered.

Almost forgot about these less well known operators like Lyca. The 50% top up bonus on Lyca, does it run out 30 days later like Tesco's one?

I've decided to go with familymobile thanks. I'm on their website and they've asked me to provide the phone number of the person who referred me and they'd give that person a 'reward'. If you are interested please pm me your number and I'll forward it to them.

Anyone knows where I could get hold of a Lyca mobile SIM card as the official website does not seem to sell it which is rather strange...
