  • I have a column of names. I want the column to the left of it to be numbers. Is there a way of automatically putting them in or do I have to type them?

Type 1 next to the first name, 2 next to the second name, highlight both cells & drag down the little + (plus) on the bottom right hand corner to the bottom of your list & it (should) number them all (fingers crossed)

The way Inky says works, although you might have to click on the little box that appears to the right (auto fill options) and select 'fill series' to get a sequence of numbers.

The other way is to type =ROW(A1) in the first box and then drag the cross down to the bottom of your list and that will number them all in sequence.
