Thanks for all your help - here's another question:
I managed to set up GrabIt to download from some of the NZB sites you mentioned by using the Virginmedia news.virginmedia.com server.
I've come back to my parents house this weekend and thought I'd make use of their 8MB connection, and am trying to set it up here. Obviously I can't use the Virgin server, they are on Tiscali. Can anyone recommend a free server I can use?
Thanks!

free server for binaries....I think we'd all like one of those

Ah ok I see - I must have got lucky being able to use the Virgin server!
Does anyone know if Tiscali has one?0 -
sorry, I wasn't clear. Some ISPs do carry text only newsgroups, others text and buinary, others none at all. you are (I guess) looking for binaries, check the tiscali FAQ to see if they have a news server...and connection details if there is oneUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

Thanks.
Just realised the main problem here is that port 119 is blocked. I've forwarded the ports on the router, windows firewall is off, so now I'm stuck!
Ah well!0 -
There are very few free servers and they all tend to be very unreliable0

I remember Tiscali banning binaries, which is why I dropped them like a hot potato. Virgin has recently ADDED a load, including the holy grail alt.binaries.multimedia (broadcast TV from the UK and US over the last 7 days or so )Out on blue six..
