Spam posts or rule breaking/abusive posts

Could someone from MSE PLEASE remind people that they are NOT supposed to reply to these posts - yes ONE person posting to say that it has been reported to abuse should be fine but all these other people jump on to either abuse the OP or to say AGAIN that they have reported it or to give their opinion on it. Case in point the people who post the Paypal pyramid scams.

People don't seem to know that they are NOT supposed to reply and that replying a) encourages these people and b) keeps the post at the top of the boards - meaning more people are likely to read it thus increasing the chances that someone will fall for the scam.

I know in the rules you are not supposed to reply AT ALL but as I have said ONE person posting that they have reported it (as long as they actually have doen so) should be fine.

Sorry but these posts are annoying enough without people replying constantly

  • Totally agree with you and mentioned it to FM this past week which prompted his post which included this remark.

At present, all that is needed is a simple "Post reported, please do not post or report further" message in plain text. We don't really need anything more.

However, it probably needs to be said in a more prominent place icon12.gif

The reason I reply is to inform people of the scam. I don't report posts if its already reported as it would only make more work for the BG and admin.

Perhaps if more work was done on filters to block them they would give up in the end. The problem is that they post in the wee hours when no one is around to stop them. I go out of my way to report these to the domain name holders and get there accounts closed and provide evidence of them doing this.

Telling the British public what the procedure is, and them then actually following it is actually very unlikely.

Only educated people can follow that principle and this country sadly lacks in numbers, so therefore head and brick wall come to mind with the OP's contribution.

I agree with it and have thought the same for a while.

With this paypal scam. Does anyone know of any good sites that will deluge an email address with spam if it's entered?

Obviously the OP on this scam will have made sure his email address is in the list. I just thought it may be a nice present for him to receive a load of spam in his inbox in return for spamming this site.

I know it's a bit naughty, but I'm soooooo tempted.

Thanks for the quote from the Forum Manager's post - I hadn't seen this but I know now.

I only ever reply with a simple "Post reported to abuse" or I don't even reply at all sometimes - I just let abuse deal with it, although if it is something like an email address I'll post to let the poster know (providing someone already hasn't posted the same) but I'll report it to abuse as well just in case it isn't removed. :)
