Sure it is.
Isn't the idea of BG blatantly overcharging and lying to customers akin to highway robbery?0 -
What overcharging? What blatant lie?
Should you not, rather, be attacking the education ministers of your youth for not providing you the opportunity to learn what the word 'fixed' means nor the capacity to apply it in this context?0 -
I understand the arguments about fix tariffs for and against but this is because of the information being released by the utility companies stating 70% increase and no more cheap power.
The tarrifs are too complicated people are confused (except for the few wise men on this site) there is no control of these companies.
My own opinions are they need to stop so many of these different tariffs that confuse people (this is for all of them) the government should regulate as well.
Look at this thread people still dont know all the tariffs that are going to be affected I find that terrible it should be plain and also unless you change to the new tariff you may not get any reduction and get overcharged because of it.
I know what some people will say on here its upto the individual to check but its also in my opinion the responsibility of the utility company to assist and not confuse.Look after the pennies and the pounds will spend themselves0 -

Given that electing for a capped/fixed tariff is always a gamble, isn't your idea akin to the Government forcing William Hill to give back punters their losing bets?
It's probably akin to the Government giving the banks the money (that comes from us anyway) they gambled (and lost) on our behalf so it's not such a ridiculous notion in these crazy timesCall me Carmine....

Because the cost of the gas that companies buy went up by more than 35% and the full cost of the increases were not all passed on to the consumer?
AstarothCY wrote: »They can do this because government regulators aren't putting enough pressure on them, but this can't go on for very long because people's patience does reach a breaking point.
So the government puts pressure on the companies who make less profit which in turn causes them to reduce investment in future energy supplies. I don't see the logic personally but then again I work for an energy company so I’m classed as the devil in disguise.
Mazio: I don't understand the confusion in this topic. This page has been up since the news went live yesterday detailing which tariffs will be affected:

I don't understand people who are feeling ripped off because they are on a fixed tariff. Any fixed rate tariff is a gamble and believe me people are not naive! The first question 99% of people ask when signing up for a fixed rate tariff is "What happens if prices go down?"
People are happy to know their prices will not go up but as soon as they come down they are being ripped off?
There are people on this forum who believe British Gas are ripping people off yet are still with them because there worked out the cheapest for them. Total hypocrisy.0 -
smidgey, as you are a proud BG employee and clearly know your stuff and don't believe there is confusion, please would you inform people on here of the %tage decrease in Websaver1 gas prices? TIA!Call me Carmine....

10% what a lovely token gesture to make BG look like the consumer friendly energy company.
I work in the industry myself, in sales, although I rather not divuldge what company and even I think these companies are getting away with far too much!0 -

.
My point is also what about the 1000s who do not read this forum and believe they will get it automatically or dont scrutinise all the tariffs (not just BG) when all the utility companies do something similar and then try to work out whats best.
You would state its their fault I understand that but its to vital for this to be that simple and there should be more automatic movement of people to reduce and not bring out yet other tariffs.
And look at the advertising BG and some others were doing to fix your price until 2011 when they new full well they would have to decrease? isnt this blatantly confusing and wrong?
Iam not saying they should not make a profit its the way they are conducting themselves and what they do with that profit thats wrong just like the banks they need controls.Look after the pennies and the pounds will spend themselves0 -

As far as I am aware websaver is a fixed discount below standard prices and that discount hasn't changed.0
