Natwest Charge

Hi
I wanted to share this one. I have two accounts with the natwest, one of those is an Advantage Gold account. I maintain these accounts and have not gone overdrawn on them. This week I have unfortunately missed a cheque from a couple of weeks ago, this goes from the Advantage Gold account. The cheque was for £40 and I only had £37.62 in this account. I had money in the other account I could have transferred but forgot about the cheque.
I log in to my accounts today and find that for the £2.38 i was short, they have charged me £38, and will no doubt take £28 this month for the £0.62 I am now overdrawn on that account.
This cannot be deemed to be fair in anyone's eyes. I have not gone overdrawn on my accounts before and would never write a cheque without the funds being in my account. And why am I paying maintenance charges on my Advantage Gold account for this to happen.

Hiya,
You should just go into your branch and explain the mistake. Most banks will let you off the first time you go overdrawn if you go in and speak to them. This worked for me (only the first time) and I bank with natwest.
Give it a go and see what happens - but remember this decision is
discretionary so be nice to the member of staff you talk to to maximise your chance of sucess.

Hey
I did that today and spoke to someone on the customer enquiries desk..about half my age I reckon, explained the £38 bank charge to me, like I didn't already know what that was about, then confirmed I will be charged £28 for the 0.68p that I was overdrawn, I pointed out I was only overdrawn because the bank took £38 out of my account knowing there wasn't sufficient funds in there...I came away with a complaint leaflet. I was polite to her but felt I would get nowhere with her. I will write to them, if they don't do something then I will close the Advantage Gold account and they will lose the £12.95 I pay each month for this account.0 -

They probably will but I will have the satisfaction of knowing that for the sake of £28 they have lost my £12.95 a month

My son accidentaly overdrew by £1.00 he was a student and only 17 . The bank charged him , refused to budge , and have continued to charge him .
He has refused to pay , and the charges are now at over £300.00., although the account hasnt been used, Basicly hes paying charges for charges.
NAT WEST helpful banking.. my !!!!........0 -
They can't claim charges off him if he's under 18.. they can't enforce any credit they have given him, basically. Take him down to the branch and they should sort it out.Kavanne

Kavane we have . Told them he was under 18 , therefore could not enter into a contract , unless it was a contract of " necessity" . They wont have it . Just keep arguing that hes age makes no difference
Sorry Jay didnt mean to hijack your thread0 -

No worries mandi..I agree with Kavanne, you cannot enter into a credit agreement if you are under 18..they are out of order. Both my sons have had problems with Natwest..I have to say that I have had 1 account with them for about 6 years and the second one for about a year and a half...always without going overdrawn, hence the reason I am annoyed with them.0
