Update on Horrendous Electricity Bill
Comments
-
I would love to know how you can only use that much elec a day.
Last year my electricity consumption was 2,211kWh; that's an average of approx. 6kWh/day. In 2007 it was 2,295kWh.
I live in a 3 bed detached house and my wife and I are both retired, so we are in for a lot of the day. As for how we only use the amount we do? We are careful, is the simple answer. We don't leave stuff on all over the place and we don't have a dishwasher (unless you count me!). Having said that, we do have a tumble drier that gets used quite a lot in the winter (and some summers!). We have A+ rated fridge, freezer and oven. We don't have a big plasma TV, either - just a 32in Sony LCD. We don't use an immersion heater; the gas boiler heats water all year round (15,500kWh/year for fgch with a condensing boiler!).
We haven't gone over the top with low energy light bulbs, either. We have 2 fitted in a couple of lamps in the lounge and 2 more outside in 'dusk till dawn' security lighting.
My best advice is to get one of those plug-in meters from somewhere like Maplins that measure the consumption of anything plugged into it - that can be quite an eye-opener!
Of course, if you've got kids then you stand no chance whatsoever - they are the most prolific consumers of energy in the known universe!

They might at Utility Warehouse prices!!
Did you read his post?
His total annual consumption is just over 2000kWh - 6kWh per day
"Dawn to dusk" 500W floodlights lights(he uses 2 lights) might use 4000kWh.
A couple of low energy bulbs that he indicated he uses might just use a bit less!!0
