Update on Horrendous Electricity Bill
In Dec we received an elec bill for £372.00 for actual electricity used. We heat and cook with gas.
When we worked out our bill we were using on average 40+ KW of electricity a day !!!
I have been checking the meter every day since, and sometimes we use 50+kw (but can't work out why)
Siemens came today to install an additional meter to shadow our meter.
In a two hour period our original meter went up 8.26 units, and the additional meter only went up 3.06.
I am so glad the meter is finally proved to be faulty.
I can't wait to see how far out the meters will be over the two week checking period.
Looking forward to a good rebate on my bills.
The meter was moved approx 2 years ago, and our bills have gone up since then.

lol - it was suggested by Brit Gas that i need to check the loft for cannabis plants - hopefully tongue in cheek.
What i need to do now i've established there is a problem with my meter is to work out when it started to malfunction - ie how far back will my rebate go.0 -
Presuambly if you know whats normal usage then you should be able to see when the usage started going up.0

Glad you're on the way to getting it sorted0

I still say modern fridges are rubbish.0

You say you heat and cook with gas, so I'd still be concerned how on Earth you manage to use 3.06 units (I assume 3.06kWh) in only 2 hours. I don't use that much in a day!
Have you tried switching off everything electrical to see whether the meter actually stops going round? Start by switching off the whole house at the fuse board or tripping the main isolator. Then switch things back on one by one.
Check your neighbour hasn't craftily coonected his house into your supply somehow!!! It's not unknown, especially if your loft is only divided by a thin party wall.

I would love to know how you can only use that much elec a day.
The average family house uses 15 - 28 kw's a day, and we're pretty much average.
On the new meter for a 24 hr period we have used 18.96 kw on the shadow meter and 53.25 kw for the same period on the existing meter. A difference of 34.29 kw for ONE DAY.
God i hope i get a good refund.0 -
Glad to hear it's getting sorted but the average consumption for electric is 3300KWH per year which averages 10KWH per day. I'm sure you can get it down from what you are using.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0
