Argos 1 carat diamond eternity ring - are they any good?

My husband wants to buy me an eternity ring and I have been thinking about getting a fairly traditional 5 / 6 stone diamond ring. We have seen one in the Argos cataloge that seems a bit too good to be true!

I have never bought anything like this from Argos before, but everywhere else we have looked a similar ring costs at least twice as much!

Does anyone know what the quality of these rings are like? We are hoping to go and actually see one at the weekend.

Would be interested to hear from anyone who may have had one or similar.

Thank you

DD went to Argos last summer to buy herself a diamond ring. She was very disappointed with the quality. It may have changed but the diamonds were very dull, not clean looking. Even the SA said it looked more like Diamonique!
  • To be honest I have never bought a diamond ring from Argos, mainly because They have always looked less sparkly than diamonds in other stores. It doesn't seem to say anything about a quality certificate with this ring either.

There are sales on in Jewellers at the moment, but I found this one in Samuels which is very similar and only £575 http://www.hsamuel.co.uk/webstore/detail/R/4718852/?Ns=P_Current_Price%7c1

I personally would rather trust them, in fact I think my eternity ring came from them.

  • Look for a manufacturing jeweller, not a designer, near you and you'll get a great buy. Check on Yell.com. alternatively look at second hand or antique as the posh folks call it. Rings can be about one third of retail. As with all check rings out for milky look or small inflections.
  • yeah, I must say I love my jewellery and tend to go to second hand jewellers - not sure whereabouts you are - but the birmingham jewellery quarter has lots of bargains, I had a gorgeous tanzanite ring for christmas for about half the price of similar ones on the high street. whatever you get I hope you love it !:T

You will be looking at over £2000 for a good quality five stone 1crt diamond ring.

  • My OH got my engagement ring from here - https://www.jewellerycatalogue.co.uk

It came with a certified valuation and it looks as good now as when it was brand new. I would highly recommend them. They are very helpful too. :)

I had a temping job a few years back in Argos on the jewellery counter and to be honest, you are probably better off spending a little more somewhere else. Their diamonds tend to be quite bad quality, full of inclusions and yellow looking in colour. If you do buy from there make sure you have a good look at it first.

Thanks for all the replies. I think we will probably keep looking. I hadn't thought about 2nd hand, but we do have a good independant jeweller who sell 2nd hand stuff near us so I will go and see what they have got.

It's a lot of money to spend and I do want to make sure we get it right.

Re the Birmingham Jewellery Quater, where abouts in Birmingham is it? We are about 1 1/2 hours from Birmingham. but are probably going up that way in Febuary so it might be worth a visit while we are there.

    Thanks for the advice.

You need to get yourself a diamond education.

The colour is clarified in letters ie d,e,f, g etc. The majority of high street jewellers usually carry upwards of h, you then have to look at clarity si 1 vsi 1 this means how visible the inclusions are. The you have the cut.

I would imagine that a ring from Argos would not even come up to the grade of high street jeweller. If it was a decent grade it would be listed.

You are by far better off going to a jeweller and having it custom made. Off the shelf is always more expensive because they build into the price, ins, how long it might be in the window etc.

I had diamond studs for my 40th and I chose the diamonds and the mounts. The jeweller showed me a set of studs in his window that he was selling for £1200 but he said the same quality would be about £200 less if made to order.
