You got into this situation, not out of wrong doing but out of desparation. People in desparate situations take desparate measures.
If you had asked for advice earlier people would have told you to stay where you were, claim HB/ LHA and the rent arrears would have been nearly sorted (at least to the point where the landlord couldn't evict).
Now you are in this situation the way forward is to tell the council now that you are going to be homeless as you are staying at friends and they have given notice and are leaving in 4 weeks. I am pretty sure that the council will not house you even temperory as you are not in priorty need. You would be expected to find your own accommodation so i would as others have said try and get a studio/1 bed flat to start off or see if family would take to in until you get somewhere to live. I know of a couple that were evicted and are living in their car so unless either of you have serious medical issues you have no chance with the council.0

OP you say you have not claimed benefits before but you sound like you also don't want to, if that's the case then you have to find a job and run your business.
If you are prepared to claim a benefit you are due go to CAB and the council and explain your circumstances and ask what is the best option.
You may well be entitled to housing benefit if you rent privately, you may be due job seekers allowance if you shut down the business, you maybe due other benefits but you won't know until you ask.
You maybe in shock but you have to have a plan of action as no one is going to physically get you house or a job.0 -
No mention of how much the other half gets paid. Maybe it's a good household income.0

Just to say a BIG THANK YOU to all the people who have given me advice and to give an update.
My hubby was helping me in trying to get my business up and running and well established but today he has been to the job centre and has got forms to fill in for job seekers allowance. We have got the local newspapers for the property pages and have got appointments to see a couple of places over the next few days with private landlords (the cheapest we can find) and I am trying to get an appointment with the CAB (our local CAB isn't open every day) for their advice on the best way forward regarding winding up my business.
Thanks again...0 -
How cheeky. You admit you have been defrauding the council and yet still expect them to rehouse you. Honestly
This opinion is immaterial - we all have the option to ask local authorities for housing, irrespective of whatever has happened in the past. Obviously though just because we ask, doesn't mean we will get.
Its all well and good passing judgement on other peoples actions - but no one knows how people react faced with circumstances which appear dire.
Take a look at the Debt Free Wannabe board to see some of the things people do/get up to...I like to save the money...0
