Well I am just getting this off the web site- it doesn't say it is only evenings and weekends. It is a new deal they are offering.

I just don't see why I should be getting a worse deal being an existing customer. Quite frankly I don't see why my usage should matter when Orange are offering new customer a better deal. New customers haven't had any usage so why should I with a medium usage be penalised?!
its annoying but with upgrades they have seen how profitable you are where as with a new connection they are hoping they will be profitable if that makes sense.
I'll have a look at business deals, but last time I checked they weren't that good for me. I'm not VAT registered- I am a private music teacher so I don't earn enough!
they weren't great before they have improved a lot
Looks like I should just learn to know my place as the bottom of the heap as Orange only want new custom!

Good idea! Are you sure I can do this? The only problem is I am gambling on deals being open in a months time. The deal on the Orange web site says January only and as a new customer I wouldn't have any leverage. Not that I have any at the moment!

You certainly can do that although you would need to check the notice period with Virgin as that will probably be 30 days so in reality you will be with them 60 days (i may be wrong on that though). Alternatlvely, port it out to a PAYG sim card where there will be no notice period. You could port out next day if you wanted:D

problem is your not usually allowed to port a number back in within usually 3 months to stop exactly that, depends if they pick up on it though really

  • Well I'll look into this porting to a PAYG Sim thing. However I'm just wondering if there is anything I can do to get Orange to offer the same deal they are offering new customers. I just think it really sucks (to use an American term) and I'm actually quite angry about it. I don't suppose complaining about it is going to help but there must be something I can do!

  • I've just looked at the Orange Business deals and they are really bad. The cheapest they offer is £30 ex VAT and as I am not VAT registered I can't get the VAT back. And they don't offer the 500Mb internet deal so data is loads more expensive. And the HTC Touch HD would cost me over £110 ex VAT. Why would anyone want to go for this?

I'm not an Orange customer (well only OVP Virgin I hardly use) so I'm commenting from a distance but that does seem less generous than other networks.

I think what to do depends a bit on the phone you want; an expensive one will add anyway, but you've done without a couple of times by the look of it. If you do manage to negotiate a bit further you might include in comparisons one month notice SIM only deals with O2 and T-mobile, plus buy a phone separately.

O2 would give you 600 minutes, 500 or 1000 texts, and so-called unlimited internet access (with more than 500MB), for £20 a month. No phone on this Simplicity tariff, but you could get perhaps Nokia E51 for about £180 new or ~£100 secondhand. From their retentions team that's a typical 18 month offer including the phone, but you can't start from there.
