in Credit cards
Hi guys,
Had a default notice from idiot ABBEY national for £147 that wasnt paid, coz i had an accident in 2005. They sent bailiff, mum paid it off with her credit card, however, 1 year later i wanted to buy a laptop at comet and they refused the credit, than i checked my credit file and thats what i have on my file:
Name: MR M ******
Address: ****, LONDON N15, N15 ** Date of birth: 20/05/1984 Company name: ABBEY NATIONAL BANK ACCOUNT Account type: Current Account Started: 15/03/2005 Default Balance: £147 Overdraft Balance: Satisfied
Defaulted On: 23/11/2005 File Updated for the Period to: 21/12/2008 Status history:
[] brackets indicate most recent months status [ 8 ] Note: A defaulted account is removed from your report after six years whether or not you have paid the debt in full. If you have paid some of the debt off, the balance should show how much you still owe.
So what do you think i should do in order to remove it?
What shall i say to them??
How long will this be visible on my file?
PLEASE HELP!

Haven't you already answered your own question? It will be removed six years after the default date. There's nothing you can do to remove it before then if the information is correct.0

If they sent the baliffs around then surely you must have had a CCJ?Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0

you need to contact abbey and get them to change the entry to satisified as the amount due has now been paid
the entry wont get removed until 6 years have expired from the date of the default even if it has been paid
if you feel that the shop in question declined becuase of this then you can state that it has been paid and for them to reconsider your case but they are not obliged to do so0 -

If you have paid it you could contact Abbey and ask them to either mark it as satisfield which will help a little. Secondly ask Abbey to remove the default as it is no longer servicing any purpose because you have paid the debt in full.
Best doing this in writing and sending it recorded delivery.0 -
Probably not a bailiff as you would have had a CCJ for them to come round. You did default the account and then satisfied it by your mum paying it so your file looks correct to me. It will be on there for 6 years.DMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 19017/05/08 - Total on DMP: £10025.7007/05/14 - Total on DMP: £1666.20 DFD: July 2017!!Baby Tomos born 5th June 2009 - 6lb 5oz :jWeight Loss Target - to lose 60.8lb by NYE 2015 - 37.6lb TO GO0

best I would say is write in to abbey(recorded delivery ofcourse) and state the reasons (accident) and that it was non intentional nor anything to do with your financial circusmstances.
I think abbey can(and are the only ones) who can remove that off your file before 6 years after which like everyone here has said it goes off automatically. I know for sure that lenders can remove/change statuses on your credit file. a friend had a late payment mark removed. she was 3 months late since she never received her bill and her direct debits was not done properly by the card company. they put a mark for late payment which appeared on her credit file.
Later after she had a word with them, quite along conversation of nearly 2 hours and speaking to 3 different people, they agreed to remove it and it was off her credit report that she got after 4 months of the conversation.:beer::beer:0 -
