Default Notice - For How Long??

  • If trying to persuade Abbey to remove it doesn't work, you could also contact the credit reference agencies (at least Experian and Equifax) and add a comment to the default. You're chance to explain it - and companies you apply for credit are supposed to consider what you say in deciding whether to give you credit.

I've no idea how you should word it though. You might need to take advice, possibly from the CAB or someone here might be able to help.

bailiffs are usually the last resort after months and months of no contact between u and them...

therefore the default should stay. accident or not, u escalated it too far!

Agreed, I think it's called dealing with the consequences of your actions.

I defaulted on a few cards many years ago, and with the exception of my Amex cards, it took 6 months before a default was lodged. If it gets to that stage than future lenders are entitled to be aware of it.

If I was the finance company funding the laptop, I would want to be aware that you had treated a previous account so badly (regardless of reasons), and on that basis would be entitled not to fund your new purchase.

You can't expect the bank to remove information posted validly onto your credit file.
