Kids hols during termtime - 10 days max ?

"If we 'should' be taking them during the school hols then the government can start sending out Thomson vouchers to cover the BIG difference in price"
Can i ask, would I be entitled to the vouchers also (married to a secondary school teacher)
Can you imagine the outcry if the teacher took 10 days off to go on holiday and the kids were left with cover teachers who "watched" the class rather than taught them!
Inset days in his school are run after school (school starts at 08.15 so already a long day as leaves home at 06.30) & tend to end about 7pm. So NO additional days out for the Children.
!
We all face the same problems with trying to go away
- I tend to go away without my husband - even trips out on Friday afternoon/early eveving , back early Monday morning are a no, no, so I go with friends.
We had to get married in term time (2nd to last day) due to family circumstances , he had to get permermission from Dep Head & then return to work fot the last day of term.0 -
I understand what you're saying but that's his job, & unless every kid in the class went on holiday at the same time it wouldn't affect the teacher would it?If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in

oh what a selfish bunch we are we say i'll take my kids out of school if i want then moan because we have to look after them for inset teacher training days, i'll take my kids out of school if i want but its your job teacher so no you cant have 10 days holiday at cheap time.i'll take my kids out of school if i want so i can teach them rules mean nothing & are there to be broken & if i'm very lucky they may grow up as selfish as me0

I chose to be a teacher, it is my job, so I don't moan about having to pay extra during school holidays as I knew this would happen..I just found moneysaving ways round the expense!
The travel companies are the ones to blame here as they're the ones making a profit out of peoples lack of choice. All kids need educating, but if it was a choice between one of my class missing 10 days of education to go on holiday or not going on holiday at all as it was too expensive during school hols, I'd happily pack the suitcase for him.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

most people my wife included chose to be a schoolteacher to help children not because its a job, she has a degree in speech & language & could go into private practice starting at £40 an hour but she prefers working with classes of children, but i suppose if she went into private practise the £40+ an hour could come out of funds put aside for Education, we could take holidays whenever(taking our child out of school) & teaching would be another teacher short0

Yeah, if you're a teacher then you know what you've taken on when you took the job, you probably get a good enough wage to afford hols during school hols also as bylromarha (TEACHER) has said if it was the difference between being able to take the kids away or not then term time it is.If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in

I think you should stop now before you dig any deeper.0 -

Good to keep you guessing guys!
I was a full time teacher until Aug 2004 and loved every minute of it. I am currently a full time mum, part time teacher and still loving life...especially as I have no class responsibility, so no planning, displays and paperwork that get in the way of teaching the kids, which is by far the best bit.
Hence the fact I can now take term time holidays...made even cheaper than the brochure price by oodles of Beef in Gravy!
I know lots of families that, to take their kids on hols during term time, was the only way they could afford to go on holiday. It was hard enough to scrape that money together...which is why I think it's the travel companies which should answer, not schools. I understand all about supply and demand, but we would go loopy if prices fluctuated so wildly over the year in our local supermarket, but we put up with the fact the travel companies to do it.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?
