Kids hols during termtime - 10 days max ?

For me rdwarr it is - unfortunately - about money. I cant say that's everyone's case, but, if I could go on the same holiday, in the same accomodation, for the same price during official school holidays, then I would.
Right now, that's not possible. Prices are increasingly hiked up around official school holiday times and lowered during term time, which makes that more appealing xxxxxThere is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. A few weeks back I looked on a travel website (cant remember which site) anyways I priced a holiday for August, 2 weeks in no particular hotel for 2 adults and 1 child, the price I was given was just over £2000.
Checked the same hotel only doing it in may and it was less than £1000 and people wonder why kids are taken out of school to have a holiday.0 -
On Pipkin & turnaround Sue's side
if every parent went on holiday in school holiday times the tour operators wouldnt have enough capacity so its an ever increasing circle
if i have offended Turnaround Sue in any way i apologise, i thought i had only offered facts not thrown any insults
all the best

Note to Tour companies if a holiday costs £1000 out of season & £2000 in high season why not make that holiday £1500 all seasons then sell on a families get priority in school holidays basis
no they couldnt do that far too easy0 -
another thing, I'm very lucky not to have any debts. If I could only take my children away during official school holiday, I would probably have to borrow in order to do so, or simply not go, and why should my children suffer because holiday companies are able to charge over the odds for the same holiday during school breaks?
I DO understand what people say when they feel we shouldn't do it, but I also understand my own situation and unless things change, I have to take holidays when I can afford them xxxxxThere is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. Surely if its not all the time then there shouldnt be a problem. If a child is off school reguarly then yeah I agree they should not have holidays during term time, however if like my Daughter who is never off then why not ?0 -
            Hi Eagle_1
I understand the point other people make about not having time off during school term, but I don't agree with it. I just accept that people have different opinions to me.
Perhaps this is why head teachers can still use their discretionary powers to approve or disapprove of school term holidays - if one child is consistently off school they may perhaps refuse a term time holiday, on the other hand, they may approve of a child who has excellent attendance going. Of course, in the same school they could then be open to claims of discrimination, so I don't know what the answer is.
On the whole though, as long as my children's head teacher gives permission, [and after reading some off these threads, I am very grateful that the head allows it!], I will continue to take our holidays during term time
Best wishes

For the people who do not advocate taking children out in term time, what are your thoughts about the schools taking children on school trips (ie skiing, rugby tournaments etc) in term time? Surely, you have to agree that if we as parents can't do then then neither can the schools?
Well it probably won't surprise you to know that I am not in favour of kids going abroad on school trips either - and before I get lynched, that is a personal view and I certainly do not expect many people will agree with me on this one.0 -
            why not gregg?

No I know you are not having a go and like I say I don't expect people to agree with me as I am just going on personal experience on this one. Last year about half of my daugher's class went on a trip to Spain for ten days with the school. However, because so many kids from the class were missing on the trip, the kids remaining were not taught their timetable for the whole of that ten days as they did not want the other kids to get left behind. I know from talking to a few other people that this has happened in other schools as well. That is why I am so strongly of the opinion that kids should go to school in school time and holiday in holiday time. Sorry if my opinion offends anyone - its just the way I feel.0
