Utter rubbish - if it has a short date then it's reasonable to expect this to be mentioned in the listing. If an item has a use by date that expires within a few days but the product would reasonably be expected to still be in use beyond this date then it's "significantly not as described" in scumBay lingo.

Request an exchange at the sellers expense and put in a PayPal claim at the same time.

If the buyer cares about specifics like time left to expiry date it's up to them to ask before purchase if not specified on the listing.

Agreed , there's always a reason why stuff's sold on ebay and it's not because of some generous seller :)

Utter Rubbish. If you care about a short date it's reasonable to expect you to ask before purchase.

You would lose the claim. The item is as described when sold and when received. You are obviously not very experienced with eBay and Paypal.
  • Thanks for your opinions. I myself wouldn't sell something that close to end of BB date, as it's not reasonable to expect to use tube of cream within 9 days and yes, natural skincare stuff does go off, it also doesn't have strong preservatives that conventional stuff has or none at all. It also loses its strength and becomes pointless.
I'm wondering if shops would be still selling something if it's BB was about to run on in a week. Somehow I believe not, they would try to sell it out sometime before that.

No it wasn't Lush, it was german brand "Lavera" hand cream.

Seller said she doesn't have the same cream with a longer date, but will exchange for smth else if I pay return postage myself, which I guess I'll do.
  • Lavera is very good organic stuff & shouldn't combust or anything on 31.01.09. It would've been nice for seller to have noted that it has a short date on their listing (I always put the expiry date in regardless) but as others have said, you have received what you paid for. Ebay is cheap for a reason!

Of course not  But the natural ingredients go off, as you would expect, and the product is no longer as effective as it once was.
Plus if its for your face it could give you a breakout

Several eBay shops, six figure £ sales per annum and a five figure feedback says otherwise; and that's just as part time work. Then there's the many years in business development for large companies and an MBA.

OP I think you answered your own question in your first post: you said this item loses some of its properites when the shelf life has passed- weather or not anyone agrees with that, thats what you believe, this leads me to believe you are unhappy with what you have purchased, and I doubt you would have set out to buy something that would have been out of date/buy something you were going to be unhappy with.

Return to sender and full refund or email seller and partial refund would be my options personally and would depend on how far I was willing to lower my standards or how much the item costed (ie is it wise to return it knowing you wont get the postal fees back).

    Hth.
