You may find that this procedure brings your phone back to life which in most cases it will allthough not everything may work as before motorolas have a issue with the lcds when they are exposed to water they work but there is no light to see the screen.
I had a motorola V220 which began to turn itself off after a couple of seconds of being switched on. As the phone was less than a month old I sent it to one of Motorola's service centers for repair but got it returned unfixed as they cited that the fault had been caused by liquid damage. They also sent a pic showing exactly where the damage had occurred. This was all news to me as I had never exposed my phone to any liquid because I only kept it in my bedroom. Of course I no longer trust motorola and will never buy one of their products again but have you come across any phones turning themselves among the repairs that you have dealt with? If there is any part of the phone that could be causing this then I would not mind having a bash at replacing it. What faulty component would cause the phone to turn off by itself?

After dropping mine in a gutter after a bad downfall of rain, (and a heavy night in a disco) and not realising the effects, I didn't bother.

A few days later I had some texts msgs that reappeared, and that was it.

But it was one of the very old brick, rubberised phones :)

A friend did something similar, and did as someone said above - took it apart and laid it carefully on a towel on a radiator or similar....

it will prob be shorting out due to a bit of corrosion
try stripping it and clean the area they have marked with a toothbrush and iso prop alcohol.
better methoed is to use an ultrasonic cleaner though
  • firstly have you tried a alternative battery.

Secondly you say the phone switches itself of hold hash and star down then power on while holding the keys down this will then get you into bootloader mode see how the phone behaves then.

This may show that the phone does have a faulty componenet if it behaves as you say if it doesnt it may be worth flashing to a newer firmware. Older firmwares on motorola phones have been buggy and usually reflashing to a newer firmware may solve your problem.

Also got a v220 here that went through the washer sadly that still works but the lcds have lost the backlight but everything else still works

let me know how it behaves when you do the above

  • Forgotten to mention under the battery somewhere there is a round white sticker or should be white if its red or any signs of red then yes its had contact with water. if its totally white which moto would look at in the first instant and see whether water has come contact with the phone then i would def recontact moto and explain that the issue that again that no water has come into contact and tell them regarding the sticker

I washed my partners mobile in washing machine and took it to a shop that did ultrasonic baths but it never worked again. They told me I did the worst thing possible by wrapping it in a towel and putting on a radiator as it in effect accelerated the corrosion. If you can be quick to get the phone in one of these baths they said it can have an 80% success rate.My partners had been left too long and you could see the blue or green corrosion after a week. Good luck

Yeah - If you have a spare fone then def put it somewhere warm (airing cupboard?) for 3-4weeks. My Nokia 6600 went in a canal twice and now works fine!!
