I have installed and run AVG anti virus. The report shows that my PC has 19 identifiable objects after I scan. Can someone please advise me as to why I am unable to delete these viruses?
Could this the reason why my PC constantly freezes?
ps, I have tried to update AVG but each time I try I get a message that the update was unsuccessful.

Try it in safe mode with system restore turned off.
Or try this:

What are the viruses called?
It is highly likely that that is what is causing the freezing, but there are many reasons that can cause this.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Thanks for the reply.
After I scan, the result shows: 19 virus found. There were 0 files healed. The details of the virus is, C:\Quarantine\T007 jpg.
I also have a box flashing stating that AVG is incorrectly dated?0 -
If it's in the quarantine directory, it should be safe, what about the other 18, what is/are the virus name(s). You should be able to wipe the quarantine directory, but haven't used AVG for a while, maybe someone else can advise how to do that.
Have you done windowsupdate recently, got SP2, firewall running, running antispyware software (ad-aware, microsoft anti-spyware beta etc.?)
Can you upgrade the AVG virus definitions using this?

OK, and are you patched with windowsupdate, do you have a security center icon in control panel, if so, make sure automatic updates is turned on, and firewall is enabled.
if not, run windows update.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

from here

download Ewido first and run that
www.ewido.net
Install ewido.
During the installation, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
Launch ewido
It will prompt you to update click the OK button and it will go to the main screen
On the left side of the main screen click update
Click on Start and let it update.
Run Ewido:- Click on scanner
- Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
- During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK

I've got the feeling Windows update may be blocked like the AVG one if he has the wrong Virus
SP1a is the best place to start
Before you start make sure you are at least up to date with Windows XP Service Pack 1a by going here
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp1/default.mspx
and choosing
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...p1/express.mspx
then when clean go back and do Service pack 2 (SP2)
