Trying to figure out how our consumption compares with others
Our British Gas bill arrived today. We have used 649 metric units (7247 kWh) over 89 days in a 4 bedroomed house. (Central heating/hot water & gas hob). (total cost of gas used £230.93).
We try to be very tight on energy consumption but don't have any yardstick to measure ours against others. Can anybody share their consumption to give us a guide please?

We have a 4 bedroom house with 5 occupants (at least one of who is home all day), we have been very vigilant on gas consumption as well and our bill for the last 3 months will come in at approx £265 (I take daily readings so can accurately work out what we are using) so I reckon your consumption seems OK.Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
Thanks carminestocky for your very helpful reply which gives us a good comparison as we are also home all day (wearing thick sweaters and thermals). Our house is cavity wall insulated so £2.59 a day doesn't sound too bad.0

How many hours per day do you have it on? You are using 7.29 units/day. That isn't bad depending on how many hours you have the heat on. I average about 1 1/2 units per hour, with the water on only for the first hour. After the first hour, I use 1 unit per hour. I have an energy inefficient house (no double glazing and old sash windows, no insulation above as a ground floor flat) and a 20yr old Potterton and 11 rads (now only using 9), thermostat in entrance hall (the coldest room) at 16, original wood flooring. Hope this helps to get some idea.FREEDOM IS NOT FREE0 -
Normally have heating on between 6 a.m. - 8.30 a.m. and then 5 - 10 p.m. but obviously on very cold days we'll switch on for a couple of extra hours during daytime. Never have it on overnight though.0

Sounds not too bad for a 4bed house (average 1 unit/hour). You probably have a lot of rads as well. I shut off two rads and lowered my average hourly usage by @.30 unit.FREEDOM IS NOT FREE0
