BT Broadband fixed IP profile

I have a dsl connection of about 3700 kbps and it is consistant and i get no connection problems. My problem is that my IP profile is set at 1000kbps and never varies so i am stuck on 1mb download speed.I have been complaining to bt about this for over a year with no joy. I am paying for btbroadband upto 8mb option 3.I have yet to speak to anyone at bt who understands the problem as they just say that if my dsl connection is 3700kbps then that is the speed i have got. What can i do?.

  • Did you check your IP profile by using the http://www.speedtester.bt.com/ site?

If it confirms your profile, and BT won't act on it, change your provider.

As a matter of interest, what is your connection upstream sync speed?

IP profile?!? not sure what that is, but if your syncing at 3700 your on a MAX service. If your upstream is 768 then its a MAX premium.

Need to know which broadband platform your line works on to advise you further.
  • I had the same problem when i first went on broadband at my new address with bt, and it took a few phonecalls to sort it out, i called the 0800555111 number i think and reported the problem, they passed the problem on as a fault to the bt engineers team and within a matter of hours they had gone and changed something at the local exchange and ip profile had changed from 1000 to 7150 enabling me to get the full 6.5 meg download speed i was paying for, i was also told to phone them back up after a week to arrange the compensation with them, although it only affected me for a few weeks so i didn't bother.

So unfortunately you have been paying for a service for a year that you have not received, they don't grasp the i.p profile thing when you phone them up unless you really push the issue and tell them. So when you phone them again make sure you tell them you want some kind of compensation in the form of 3 months free or something along those lines :)

And don't forget to make use of the free usenet access they provide :)
