    1] Tracy, Melvin
    Restaurant Manager and Car Mechanic
2004, Bought their council house in Derby
    Mortgage less than rent
    It was £300, now it's over £400.

They started spending on credit cards, put food shopping on the CCs.
They were getting phone calls offering consolidated loans, secured against the house to pay off all their cards.

£19k, £10k... then it got to what it is now £44k

They wanted to leave the house to their kids, but she said "the mites aren't happy now", so she feels their happiness now is worth more than any future perceived gain.

Their kid got ill, so the dad gave up work to look after him. Some leg problem.

    2] Maria, a Social Worker

On Maternity Leave after the birth of her 2nd child. Eldest daugher is 9

She is not on Income Support, she's on Maternity Allowance

She had been with the kid's father for several years, but he left her during the pregnancy. She intends to go back to work
    She has:
    - student loan
    - bank loan
    - HP agreement for car.

Car loan is half the income, so the car has to go.

She fell behind with the debts and the creditors put the pressure on. She stopped answering the phone and opening the mail.

She's trying to hide it all from her 9 year old daughter, hasn't told her about the car going and doesn't answer the phone first thing in the morning as it's loan companies.

Daughter knew something was up but didn't know what.

3] Michael was a professional chef - including at The Dorchester and The Savoy.

He's retired now. He has a carer Maggie looking after him.
They have an individual gas hob and a microwave to cook with.

7 years ago he had a heart attack, he went to the Doctor with a cough and when he got there he coughed and keeled over. He had strokes, then a heart attack. Ended up on lots of machine, oxygen machine etc.

In 2003 he was offered a loan and bought some stuff to do up his flat. He's fallen behind with the payments. Read a letter out that he's £419 behind.

Fiona, from Blackfriars Advice Centre, is there to work out his monthly budget. He has special dietary needs

His Carers were supplied by the local authority, but he was sent different ones, so now he gets DLA and pays for a carer directly. He has to top it up by over £88/month.

1] She's on sick leave. Had to go to the Doctor because she can't cope. as she keeps crying.

Their loans were secured against the house, now being threatened to be taken to court. Up to date on the mortgage, so they took advice with the local Advice Centre.

She's decided they can't continue as they are. The man could go back on the bins, but they'd not be any better off financially if he did. She's decided the only way forward is to lose the house, trying to convince him.
