2] Maria doesn't own her flat, so won't be repossessed.

Maria's considering bankruptcy. She's gone to see her mother who struggled financially during Maria's childhood. Maria's mum held down 2 jobs, her dad was never out of work, they were a new migrant family with 5 kids, but they struggled through, even having the gas etc cut off at times.

Her mother's disappointed "I am not comfortable at all, you'll be going from pay day to pay day, which is what it was like for us".

In 2003 he was offered a loan to buy his HA flat. He's fallen behind with the payments. Read a letter out that he's £419 behind.

Minor point but the loan was to "do up" his flat, not buy it....

3] The Carer, Maggie, has now returned to France. He now has a friend doing his caring. The electric bills are too much. He's had to turn off some of his machines.

His debt advisor has suggested he goes bankrupt, but he needs to come up with the court fees, which he doesn't have.

They ask him if he will go into sheltered ccommodation, it's cost him thousands to do his house up. He said he'll go bankrupt but he's not moving out of his house. "They must be bl00dy joking, they're going to stick me in an old folks' home..."

1] Tomorrow is the court date for repossession. She's on SSP and wondering if she can skip this month's mortgage payment as they'll need it.

It's stressful as it gets closer, but at least they'll know what is happening tomorrow.

Derby Crown Court - she said she feels guilty. They got a date for possession. They can find a buyer up to that date, if they get a note of eviction and they have a buyer, let them know. They have 6 weeks to find a buyer
  • Nice to see they made an effort when going to the repossession hearing - shirt and tie etc.

2] Maria has decided bankruptcy is her only option and fills in the forms.
One of her loans was at 39.1% APR. One of her loans has been sold on (Halifax loan). Total came to over £45k, she said to herself "it's a lot of money, how do you rack up that amount of debt?"

3] Michael has his debt advisor helping him fill in his forms.

1] There's bad new sin the papers about house prices falling. She wants to tart it up a tiny bit, he can't see the point. "There's no point in trying" she says "No, just stick it on the market".

They're arguing, he wants to fix his bike to go get a job, but can't afford to. And she says how many jobs have you applied for, and he says "none, you say I can't get one"

2] Maria's gone to the advice centre to check the figures.

One of the debts is worrying. Council Tax. Her mum's paid it, nearly £700 and she's paying her mother back £30/month.

She feels guilty for being in that situation; she knows how she arrived there but feels guilt and digging it all up feels like punishment.

She's got a fixed penalty notice on her car when she gets back to it from the Advice Centre. She doesn't know how much it will be

She needs to find the £400 for the court to go bankrupt.

1] They went round the estate agents, looking at a price of £95k for their house. It's on the market. That would be just enough to clear the debts secured on the property, but to try to get a buyer within the 6 weeks they've been advised to sell at £82k, then go bankrupt to clear the rest of their debts.

But they do have a viewer.

She had to explain to the son, 14, that they have to go where they're offered a house, they don't have a choice. He's not happy/crying.
