Mobile phone contract problems Help

Hi all , my daughter has lost her job and has a contract phone costing £35 a month .
The contract is 18 months , and has a year + one month to go .
Shes rang T mobile and asked to have the tarrif reduced but they said there wasn't anything they could do for her , she got put thro to another dept and they suggested that she cancel her direct debit and have the next bill sent to the house ( which shes done ) , they also suggested that the only way to reduce her monthly amount was to then not pay the bill on time and ring them up saying she couldn't afford it , and that way they could look into reducing her monthly bill .

I'd welcome any advice on this , is this the best way of going about it .
Also does anyone know if it's possible to pay to get out of this contract , if it is would they want the full amount of the contract outstanding .

    yes, and then some to cover some random costs. I found the email team more than helpful when I approached about this.

    Hopefully this will be of some help:

    Although I work for o2, hopefully some of the information should be the same.. you can lower your tariff after completing a minimum term (usually 9 months), and after that by one step each month.

    So for example... instead of calculating the 'term fees' at £35 x 18 months = £630 what they could do is calculate it as if you would lower your tariff at that point..

    so.. for 9 months - £35 x 9 = £315
    10 month - £30
    11 month - £25
    12 month - £20

    etc. etc.

    This may be an option to ask them to calculate it this way.

    If you want to cancel immediately you will have to pay an early termination fee, which is basically the remainder of the line rental.

    The advice they have given you is correct. Although T-Mobile do not allow customers to lower their tariffs until the final month of their contract, if your daughter falls into a collections path (this means starts having late payments) then they would transfer you through to the collections team who may be able to either lower her tariff as a special circumstance (they'd rather get some money from her than incur costs getting debt collections agencies involved), or come to some sort of payment arrangement with her.

    No.

    It works out cheaper to cancel early rather than keep the line going.

    By cancelling early, apart from not having to pay any charges for calls/messages etc outside your plan, they also give you a 4% discount off the line rental outstanding at the time of the cancellation.
