  • I've got a kelloid scar and i've hear bio-oil can help with it, although not very mse with £10 for a small pot and £20 for a larger one. Which is why I haven't bought any yet.

Not overly helpful I know, but there was a girl on Miami ink with really bad ones on her back due to chickenpox scars, and they wouldn't tattoo over them due to the nature of the tissue. I think your doctor is your best bet....

Bio oil is the best thing to reduce scars, its definately worth buying but would need to be used regularly to get results.

I used the scar reduction patches for a while (my scar is on my chest and very visible so I was conscious of it being so visible and didn't use it for long) they did seem to help though.

aromatherapy can help, a long time since I did it but I used a blend of oils (can't remember which ones) on the scar I have and it reduced it. Worth checking out aromatherapy books in your library, most decent books will give recipes including the one I used. If I come across it I'll post it.

I had very red and lumpy keloid scars on my arm and chest following surgery - highly visible for a long time .My Dr prescribed patches, and I subsequently bought oils various. IN trusth they made no/small difference, the best healer has been time. 5.5 years on they are still 'raised' but less vivid.

I have learnt that scars are a lot better than being dead (the alternative), I continue to wear clothes that I like not just things that cover me and I have been told that as I am not self concious I have made it easier for others who are not perfect to live with their scars too. It has not all been easy, I have had the odd hissy fit when trying to find an outfit for a special occassionc a nd for some reason my scars appearance seems to worsen

It still puzzles me that the scar on my leg is silvery and flat and I would prefer it if all my scars were like that but it is was it is, and I can't change it.

    Good luck

Hi, I also had these scars following gallblader removal which was open surgery. I spoke to my doctor regarding this, and he gave me a prescription for a special gel patch- however the stickyness only lasted a couple of days so was a waste of time at £6ish pound (whatever the NHS charge was at the time)..

I agree with the last poster- time is the best healer- my ob was 4 years ago, and the scars are definately a lot better now, after no other treatment..

  • I used elastoplast scar reduction patches on mine, whichwas stil raised and red 15 years after the surgery. They have flattened and faded the scar so it is less obvious than it was but it is still pink and slightly raised.

Apparently they work best on younger scar tissue so you might have better results, although they aren't cheap.

I believe that if scars are very raised they can be reduced with steroid injections (a friend had this done on some particularly nasty acne scars).

Scars can also be surgically revised if they are particularly nasty but often you are left with a larger but neater scar so this isn't always suitable. I decided it wasn't worth it for mine which is only visible in underwear/swimwear.
