if you have the time get more quotes and play them off against each other.. i did this and i got my windows £1500 quid cheaper than the dearest quote.. it was fun as well lol

    HI,

I too am looking at new windows, I got a good deal a couple of years ago on three windows from a company called 'Down Window Systems'. Great windows, good fitters, very cheap.
Stay away from Discount window systems.
    Cheers,

turkingtons were to come out this morning - was told by salesman he would be out by 9am or b4.

waited 'til 9.20 and still no sign of him, rang main number and was told by the girl she would ring salesman and ring me straight back. waited 10 mins still no reply so i rang back and she said he was going to ring me. sure enough he rang, was only at boucher road and i'm in glengormley. so i told him to forget it as he didnt have the courtesy to ring me and let me know he was running late, i had to go to work. i thought it v unprofessional. he asked if i wanted to re-schedule but i said no as i felt we weren't off to a great start.

wouldnt recommend them, poor service and no consideration to the fact that i had to take time off work to see them.
windows 200o coming out on wednesday............

Also consider getting a quote for Pilkington K glass (I think it is called). It is supposed to reflect much more heat back into the house - have heard ixed reports about it but it is something to consider.

I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!
  • We had four double glazed windows installed by Fairco McIlhagga
on 13 January. The fitters were excellent, they even rang up to ask if they could start a few days earlier which was good news. They did a great job, cleaned up really well after finishing. No complaints about them. But... one of the window panes was broken, they had to fit it anyway as a new one had to be made. Not their fault they only fit them.

We are still waiting for the replacement despite numerous phonecalls which were not returned. Nice to sit with a broken NEW lounge window. I don't think so.
So, if you want good after sevice forget Fairco McIlhagga.

  • Well, you will not believe this, but I have just received a phonecall from Fairco McIlhagga! They are supposed to be fitting the new window tomorrow.
Will let you know if it really happens.

  • I can without question recommend Smart Windows in Bangor. The Sales guy is Keith Whitehouse and the number is 02891473444. We got our windows and doors for the cottage in Mayo two years ago and they were the cheapest.
I rang them before Xmas and got a new window for the house in Belfast and they were the cheapest again by far.
I wanted one window for collection as my husband was going to fit it.
I got quotes of up to £280.00 and Smart Windows got me the window for £115.00.
    Highly recommended.

  • well just an update on my quest for quotes !
had windows 2000 man out just now...........really hard sell and would have liked a decision on the spot, criticised other companies which i didnt think very professional. when i had a cigarette, he proceeded to have one too! he stayed for 1 1/2 hours and was imo too familiar. he is what i would imagine a cliche dg salesman that you read about to be... tried to almost frighten us by saying about the amount of breakins in the area and i felt he was sneaky and underhand in the way he dealt with us.
    no sale no way!!
have decided to go with pro clad and will update y'all during the installation.
  • make sure they guarnatee against discolouration if they are white pvc.
my sister's went yellow and they are dreadful.
I started off with nothing and I've still got most of it left.
  • latest in the saga. the guy from windows 2000 really was hard sell - he phoned us this morning at 9.30 to see if we had decided...was told the answer. he pushed saying they would match proclads price of 3700 and that would be for xtra strong???!!
just think he really has a cheek, can see how a guy like that would force pensioners or vulnerable people into parting with their money.
bear in mind his original price was 4950 for extra strong windows and 3950 for standard.
think we've made the right choice but will keep you updated.....
