Has anyone else got concerns about their holiday this year?

Dear all,
I have read some great advice on the boards, and have only "lurked" up until now. Please can someone give me some good advice?
Myself and my partner have been planning a trip towards the end of this year, which for us would be a "trip of a lifetime". We have been planning it for about 18 months, and saving for it for the past year.
We have saved ALL of the money to go, however the weak pound has made the whole thing more than £1000 more expensive than when we first priced it up.
Even though we have the money to go, and are lucky enough to have no debts at all (apart from a mortgage), I cannot help but worry what would happen if one of us lost our job - that money would tide us over nicely for a while.
We are in a good financial position overall, we have other savings, we have no reason to think our jobs are at risk, but I am still worried about spending a large amount of money in the current economic climate.
Part of me thinks I am being really stupid, that we have worked hard for this trip and we should bl**dy well go and enjoy it then the other part of me thinks we should keep the money in the bank instead - "just in case".
Your honest thoughts would be appreciated - I am a bit of a born worrier and am fully aware of that fact! But just thought other people's views may help me with my mental battle on this!!!

know what you mean, it can be a worry...
but sometimes you just gotta say s0d it and go for it, and just chill and enjoy yourselves.... most of us deserve that!
i would assume, that if, perish the thought, either of you were made redundant, you would at least receive some kind of redundancy pay, so to be fair, you would still have some money to tide you over....
think positive though, go and have that holiday, and bl00dy well enjoy yourselves !Please take the time to have a look around my Daughter's website www.daisypalmertrust.co.uk

You have but one life so enjoy it!0

If you've only got a mortgage I wouldn't bother worrying. If you get redundant there are more jobs out there if even if its just something to tie you over. You could wait years, the pound may drop further, your savings won't grow because of low interest rates, instead just go have some fun!
Think of it as a reward for not being stupid with money.0 -
I'm liking the replies so far :cheesy: thank you for them.
Its only when I watch the news or read the paper that I worry about it so maybe I just need to have a news black-out for the rest of the year!!0 -
Go for it.
We're in a similair predicament although the price hasn't gone up that much for us.
However, with the mortgage rates going down, we are making savings elsewhere so I figured that we should still go ahead and enjoy our holidays.
I love my holidays, me!!That's Numberwang!0 -
Enjoy your life, you only get one and you'll be a long time dead!
I wouldn't say that if you had debts but you don't so go for it:T No good worrying about what might happen:p0 -
go enjoy urself i know i would0

I agree, you only get one life, enjoy it

I love going away

You should never begrudge money spent on travelling. We took on part-time jobs a few years back (in addition to our full-time jobs) which enabled us to save enough money to have three holidays in the US and Canada. We visited places we never thought we'd see, have amazing photographs of our travels and memories which always bring us joy when we're feeling glum.
Better to enjoy the money you have saved while you have it and your health is good and treat yourselves to a trip of a lifetime. We did what to us was a trip of a lifetime (San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, California Coast, fitted in a spot of Wine Tasting, took a tour to see the Coastal Redwood Trees, stayed in nice hotels). Amazing. OK it cost us about £3.5K for 2 weeks but it was worth every penny. In fact we loved SF so much we went back the year before last ... and the good memories came flooding back.
We hope you take the plunge and go. Do your research before you go and you won't regret it!Norn Iron Club Member 330
