Has anyone else got concerns about their holiday this year?

Go for it. You've already thought it through by saving for the trip first, not just going and getting into more debt for it. And I have noticed travel companies offering redundancy protection and things like that, so just look into those and get what cover you can.
I went for my trip of a lifetime in October (working in a Tanzanian orphanage for 6 weeks) despite owing my parents 10k, as 2009 onwards is the time to save up and settle down, so if I hadn't had done it in 2008 then I never would have, and that would have been a huge mistake as I think about my amazing experience every day and don't think for a second I shouldn't have gone.
It's a bit like when people talk about the right time to have a family.. there is no perfect time. If you put it off a year one of you could have lost your job, the whole 'economic crisis' thing could be twice as bad and you'd be even more unlikely to go.
GO FOR IT, no doubt about it!!!! Get it booked now too...because then you are committed to going. The longer you leave booking the more chance you have for that niggle in your head to take over and change your mind!!!OU Student! - ED209, SDK125, DSE212, SK124, DSE141, SD226, DXR222, DD303, DD307 = BSc Psychology0 -
The experience of your lifetime trip will be invaluable, and you'll come back feeling so rich you'll be glad you didn't give in to worry!
Have a wonderful trip! And congratulations on being good with money!0 -
Wow - lots of replies and not one negative! I can't tell you how much I appreciate you all taking the trouble to answer and making me feel SO much better about it all. Its reading and listening to the press thats creating all the doubts but yes I think we should go for it - we do only live once after all and I know how much we'd regret it if we postponed it and then never went.
Thank you all so much - I knew I'd get good advice on these boards!
Now - just one last thing - when is the dollar rate going to improve?
Only joking - I know you guys don't have crystal balls, its just I've seen that question posted so many times on here and the answer is - who knows? I sure as hell don't!0
