    Maybe the cat is cold?

I'd agree. We know when it's a cold night as one of our cats always tries and gets under the quilt.

If it's a mild night, she just sleeps either on the end of the bed or downstairs.
A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.
  • Our older cat is in bed before us and sleeps like a log, but some nights you'd think the house was being done over as the younger two brawl up and down the stairs, on top of the duvet and under our bed.

I find cats tend to have "crazy time" a couple of times a day but settle down with age and start sleeping more.

  • Maybe she needs her own hot water bottle, duvet and pyjamas?!
I will put her her own blanket scrunched up at end of bed tonight and see if that helps - she has a sleeping bag on the sofa, and likes that during the day but wants to sleep on the bed at night.
  • Yes - it's what cats do best! Keeping themselves warm and comfortable at the expense of the owner!

As you say, you let her on the bed when she was a kitten - your fault!!

When one of my cats was a kitten, it was very cute to see him climb up the leg of your jeans like someone climbing a pole. Not so funny when he suddenly decides to do it when he is five years old and weighs a fair bit more!

Your cat sounds like she's a bit chilly on a night, and likes your company! Still doesn't help your sleep though, sorry!

    the joys of cat ownership!

i have two male siamese cats, i adopted one in september, the other i have had for 13 years.

my night time goes something like this:

11pm - bed and some reading
11.15pm - Alpha cat power-struggle by my head
11.30pm - Alpha cat power struglle across my legs
11.40 - cats settle at end of bed
    midnight - lights out
12.01am - C claws his way under the duvet
12.02am - T plonks himself by my head, and snuffles my hair befoe nodding off
12.03 - T starts snoring very loudly by my head
3am - T&C play Thundering Herds of Elephants throughout the flat
    6am - T gets up for a poo (without a fail)
6.05am - T and C play Acrobats across my bed
7.00am - two hungry cats sit at end of bed making funny noises.

No wonder I feel tired all the time!

Nice to know it's not just me and DP who has this all night! If I shut our herd out of the bedroom they will tear the door down and trash the entire house so it's easier to just let them all do as they like and hope we get a few hours sleep. It's entirely the fault of me and DP, we should have shut them out of the bedroom when they were all kittens then we would be allowed to sleep but we're both far too soft for our own good :)

I'm hoping they'll grow out of it when they get older but as the oldest is about 12 and hasn't stopped disturbing us, I think we may have a long wait! At least none of them stand on my eyelids to wake me up now, like they used to (they never did it to DP, though, they just liked to try to injure me when they were kittens!).

We used to have a cat who would climb your jeans - he weighed about a stone and while it was funny watching him do it to visitors, it wasn't quite such fun when he did it to me  He'd also jump off the tops of doors and the garage roof onto your head when you walked past, little darling. I miss him like mad :(

Princess Jane, when did your cats start to settle down? I'm wondering if ours are still slightly loopy because we have a younger cat as well and he likes to play a lot, so the others join in.

this is my cat snoring - he does this right by my ear, so when they finally stop playing Herd Of Elephants, I then have this to contend with.

to stop scratching, try double sided stickytape on the door, or fastening sandpaper to it. Stopped Hex when we first had him.

I let them sleep on the bed last night..Hex isn't feeling well I think..off his food a bit, came to see me in the shower last night, then spent a few hours on my lap with his head up my shirt..he's never normally a "fuss me" boy, but last night it was like going back 14 months to kittenhood.

Seems a bit more lively this morning, bless him.

Norm settled down after he had his 'bits' done aged eight months.

We told him before he went it was because he had been so naughty - he used to poo in the bathroom sink, climb on the kitchen benches to steal food and generally carry on like a loon.

He came back a much quieter cat! Screamapillar his little sister is next for a vet's trip, as you can tell from her name she is one noisy little lady.

Tiny scrap of black fur but very naughty - started running away to play outside with her big brothers at four months old.

I think you worry more with girls.

    Maybe the cat is cold?

We had no heating for a few weeks in December and on the coldest nights our youngest kitty curled up under the covers with us too.
comping since august 2007, wins so far.....none! :rotfl:
