Withdrew £200 - charged but no money!!

I've got a big problem I really hope you guys could help with
Last night I withdrew £200 from a Nationwide cash machine (with a Barclays debit card, if that's relevant) - the machine approved the transaction and whirred for a few moments, saying 'your money's being prepared' or whatever, and it sounded as if it was counting the money.
Then suddenly a message came up saying 'error, transaction cancelled' or something and my card was returned, but when I went to another cash point I was minus £200
I'm so angry and upset right now
I know £200 doesn't sound like the end of the world but I'm just a student - that's basically all the money left in my account and was supposed to last until my bursary money comes in (another 3 weeks! ) Plus I've got a few direct debits coming out soon from an account which is now completely overdrawn to the max!
My question is - how I go about solving this? Obviously I've got to go into Barclays straight away today after my lectures, but how soon can it get sorted out? What proof do I have that I didn't actually get the money? To make matters worse, its in a completely different city (Manchester and I go to Newcastle, it was a mate's 21st bday party, got the train there and back yesterday) and I can only just about remember which cash machine it was
Any help would be so so appreciated right now!!

Hi
A similar thing happened to me at an ATM outside a supermarket a couple of years ago, when I spoke to the cashpoint people (from a number on the machine) they told me that their records would tally when they did the balancing on the machine (ie it would be up by the amount it should have dispensed), they told me to call my bank and get them to chase it up which they duly did.
From memory im pretty sure the missing money (only £50 in my case) only looked like it was missing for about 24 hours before it was confirmed between banks that the cash was never dispensed. So have hope - im sure it will be sorted although it doesnt help your cash flow very much right now.
As you know what type of ATM it was this should help you in getting it sorted, good luck.Hoping for a calmer year in 2012

This happened to my mum before christmas before with a barclays card and nationwide cash machine. She just rang her telphone banking and gave them the details and they looked into it and the money was back in her account in 4 working days.

Go to any Barclays branch and explain the situation. If the money hasn't returned to the account after 48 hours of the initial debit, then they can raise an ATM dispute with Nationwide.
If they say they can't, tell them to go onto Branch Toolkit, look on the left hand side, click "Self Help," then choose the ATM Disputes option.
See, I even went and looked it all up!What would William Shatner do?0 -
4 working days is a long time without food in your belly, banks should assist here with a temporary overdraft facility to value of the discrep, that amount of money would have crippled me - that is why I do 99% of transactions electronically, you can keep your old English paper money mate.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0 -

They might very well be able to mark it then and there, depending on the existing overdraft etc. What would William Shatner do?0 -

I think. With the recession and inflation and all.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0
