aaah vegas! but amazingly, you can smoke inside in vegas, and it never actually smells of cigarette smoke, or you get that awful smokey atmosphere...

    good aircon/extraction there then...

The point i am making is that at the time of booking this cruise we were allowed to smoke in one designated area of the ship. So we were choosing a holiday where we were allowed to smoke. We were on the ship in Aug 2007 and they were advertising and taking bookings on board for the new Caribbean cruises. No mention was made that the policy on smoking was being reviewed otherwise we would not have booked the holiday the next month. As i said in my first post, I didn't want to turn this into a huge debate about Smokers/non-smokers. It is about the Company not bothering to inform there customers untill the tickets arrive. When it is probably obvious that there is not a lot we can do about it.

P&O did a similar thing with our cruise, but at least they wrote to us and state that the smoking policy was about to change. I contacted them about cancelling and they would have let me cancel without penalty and returned my deposit if we had wanted.

May be worth contacting Thomsons and asking the same.

On DFDS last September, there was a few seats on one floor that people could smoke inside but we just went outside xx

  • I booked a Thomson cruise in Sept 07 for a cruise in Oct 08 when they changed smoking policy in April 08 i asked for refund of deposit.
They said NO it is not a major change,i cancelled + lost £260.
Incidently Thomsons policy is still ambiguous,in its latest brochure on one of its main pages it says " no smoking anywhere inside ship" but in small print at back of brochure in info A-Z it says "smoking IS permitted in cabins but asks you not to + usually a smoking area in one bar".
On Thomson website it says smoking areas in at least 6 bars on Island Escape.(now Thomson run).
