Smoking on Crise ship
Comments
-
Workplace smoking is a British law. Most Cruise ships fly "flags of convenience" - namely registered in a port/country that best serves the operating company - many cruise ships are Bahamian registered in Nassau.
However this point is mute - Many ships are stopping smoking - Carnival & Royal Caribbean allow smoking on one side of the ship only of 2 open decks and in the casino only (note where they make most money (casino) they allow smoking.
This is the trend and it's going to become more common.
Presumably the legal point for the companies is that they are UK employers and therefore need to offer their staff the same employment protection as other UK workers0 -
paragraphs..
makes things easier to read...
as for smoking, yeah.. i'm just gonna go outside and freeze while enjoy a cigarette..
most hotels are all non smoking these days, so i'm used to it... i can't enjoy a beer and a cigarette in a pub these days, why do you have to enjoy the entertainment and a cigarette...0 -
I think Fred Olsen are enforcing the same this year, and the inside of the ship will be no smoking. Last year they had one bar where you could smoke inside (OH likes a cigar so spent a bit of time in there!!) but I think from now on it will only be allowed out on deck.
I don't know if this is in response to complaints from non-smokers or a new 'law' they have passed, but it is very coincidental that Thomsons are now suddenly also adopting the same policy.A chicken crossing the road is poultry in motion0 -
I heard rumour that they are about to ban sex on all cruises as well, as well as booze, just in case any customers are found to be actually enjoying themselves.:rolleyes:0

That probably would not bother most of the passengers on Fred Olsen!
You certainly get to hear all sorts sometimes when the cabin walls are thin  On one Airtours cruise, the occupants through the back wall (inside cabin) used to go at it hammer and tongs once they got back from the bar (very late and I would be in bed reading, and DH & DS fast asleep.) DS was always regretful I did not wake him up to hear!A chicken crossing the road is poultry in motion0 -

The last time we were on the Destiny the only British staff were the reps. The rest of the staff were mainly Philipino and were on about £2.00 an hour for an 18 hour work day. They worked there butts off and were always so happy and friendly. Nothing was too much bother for them. It was pretty difficult at the end of the cruise deciding who to tip as everyone off them deserved it.0 -
You do not 'have to keep going to a designated area outside' Nobody is making you smoke.
Of course the cruise company have a duty of care to their staff that poison is not inflicted on them whilst working. Appalling to suggest that you or anyone else would consider doing such a thing.0 -
If it's that distressing to you-don't go.
The world is changing and smoking just isn't acceptable the way it once was.
It's surely not that much of a hardship to stand outside in the warm when you want a cigarette-not like freezing outside a pub at home .
Now smokers are a minority cruise ships cater to the majority of their customers who prefer a smoke free environment and reduce the risk of getting sued by customers who suffer asthma attacks or other smoke affected conditions due to smoky environments.
I smoke-hopefully considerately- but if I want a holiday where I don't need to go outside (hardly a hardship though) I go to Vegas.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
