Slow Internet Speed.

Currently with BT Broadband Option 3 but I am only getting half a meg speed. This is driving me mad, spoken to BT who say nothing can be done as the line can only support this speed.
Has anyone any suggestions, I have BT for phone and Sky for TV.

Why are you paying BT for broadband when you subscribe to Sky? Sky make use of ADSL2+ technology, so you may well get faster speeds on Sky but it's a no brainer to switch to Sky, as the speed that you get now would be free on Sky!

What downstream attenuation, snr margin does your router report - http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.php
Are Sky/Easynet LLU in your exchange? http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php
If not then no you will not get ADSL2+ technology with Sky and no it won't be free.

erm...sky LLU (the free kind) isn't available to everyone :(

Very true but a half arsed question often gets a half arsed answer! The OP has given very little information apart from "this is driving me mad"

PS I would thank you for your post but begging for thanks in your sig. sucks!

  • ^ it does suck. added a month or so ago, lots of effort put into helping someone without the button being pressed, while on another thread a couple of posters were going through the i thank you, no i thank you bit..which I found a bit annoying (especially as nothing constructive was going on, infact it 'may' have been a couple of posters ganging up on another if I remember rightly (can't remember the details, so no link))

I never look at my sig..so I don't notice it, but I thank you for your polite comment.

the 'thanks' system is overused on this board, I though it would be nice if occasionally it recognised useful input, or help, rather than 'I'm your friend'

A gentle prod in the right direction can do no harm no matter how many times the same old questions arise.
Perhaps the time has come for a sticky relating to common speed/connection problems along side the excellent malware/spyware thread?
Might save the regulars getting the hump.

I've had terrible problems with BT broadband. Been with them over a year and had no problems until December. I have since got my MAC and am moving to O2 but BT seems to have picked up again now.....
