Can I have 2 Car Insurance Policies??

Hi everybody, thanks for reading my thread:beer:

I currently have a company car insurance policy in my name with my wife as a named driver.
She is about to get her own car and was wondering if I can also insure that in my name again with her as a named driver? The reason for wanting to do this is that I have 13 years No Claims Discount and she has none because she has been a named driver for the last 8 years!

So is that allowed or will she have to take a policy in her name with me as a named driver?

Many Thanks, Daniel.

  • It is unfortunately fraud to 'front' the policy for your wife, if it is her car and she will be the main driver.

Ignore the suggestion above that you will be committing fraud - that's bs.

There is no reason why you cannot insure this new vehicle yourself and add your wife as a named driver irrespective of who is the main driver.

If she is the main driver, then say so when taking out the policy.

(You do need to have earned a separate (to your existing car) ncb on another vehicle to be able to use it on an additional car)
  • Providing the insurer also agreeable to the policyholder not being vehicle owner or registered keeper?

The mainstream insurers aren't too bothered who is the actual reg. keeper when a spouse/partner is wanting to insure the vehicle.

eg. This is morethan's requirement regarding the owner/keeper of the car:
You or your husband/wife/partner are the owner/registered keeper of the car.

In a similar situation, wife with loads of driving experience but no NCB, I used A Plan they gave her 3 years NCB, all above board.

Here's a thought - why not get your wife her policy - I know she has no NCB but think - If you were to have an accident (God forbid) and loose your NCB then both cars would be back to square one! - Also if your wife drives like my wife, she'll soon ruin your NCB ! ! ! (Only joking ladies)

I would hope that with 13 yrs NCB the OP protects it! IMO would be silly not to.
Also having to make a claim when you have full NCB but don't protect it wouldn't lose you everything, only a 2-3 years.

But most companies only count up to 5 or 9 years. If your company counts up 5 then you make a claim, you could be left with just 2 or 3 years NCD even if you had 13 years before.

Yes but you won't lose it all as FH suggested.

Surely if you have two car insurance policies and only make a claim on one of them , you only lose you NCB on that one, not both ?
