No Linda, she hasnt. Should she have
It is usual to take an x-ray of a tooth before doing an extraction, however she may already have one that shows her the position of the roots.
Ask her at your next appointment and ask her to show it to you.

i have the dentist tomorrow, similar thing really...
the back of tooth is intact, the front facing part is broken off...
dentist did temp dressing on it before Xmas which came out last week, i thought that it lasted quite well since it was only clinging onto one side of tooth!
now the dressing is out, i am quite used to the gap... considering going for cheaper option of extraction of back of tooth, or as dentist thinks it will take a cap/crown/whatever it's called... will be over £120, which i know is not excessive, (thinking of DD's ££££thousands) but i could do without the expense......
It's the one behind my the pointy one (incisor??).. if that makes any difference...
Nurse Linda - your thoughts please????????I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -

A premolar then.
It's worth hanging onto a tooth if possible to maintain the arch of your mouth.
When you loose a tooth the neighbouring ones can drift or the opposing tooth can 'over erupt' into the gap left by the extracted tooth, this could alter the way you bite together and place stresses on other teeth.
A crown is a good long term solution if what's left of the tooth is solid and sound!
At least then you have the future option of extracting it if things don't go to plan. Once it's out you can't go back!
