TAPA The Advertising Protection Agency. They are doing a great job in bringing down these scam artists.

PS, I have just removed the link to TAPA, because somebody has just hacked their website.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

BCS Multimedia are now targeting Andover in Hampshire. I had a call and received a leaflet in the post [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM]l. I checked the local library and they have noe received any copies I have yet to hear from Trading Standards or the Police. I contacted both as the male caller said is was the local crime Prevention Officer. [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM] they originally said it would cost £80 now we are getting demands for over £400. What can we do about it? [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM]

What a pity that Board Guides don't seem to be able to combine a new thread on an existing topic with threads that have already covered the same ground much earlier. It woud also surely help if posters took the trouble to use the MSE search facility before launching OPs. That way, a collected resource of information would be on hand to all, one which would not only help but might -- as in this case -- prevent misapprehensions arising about the nature of business enterprises such as TAPA.
  • I have over the past few days heard from Wilson Haines and what an !!!! he is, he rang demanding payment and was told he would be hearing from my solicitor and he said that he had and they were happy with what they had received, i told him that i was not paying, he told me that i was a smart !!!! and was i in the real world and that they would send me a book with the advertisement in it on friday or monday at the lastest and that he "WANTED" paying, told him i didn't have the money to be told they would get a warrant of execution, told him to go right ahead as i wouldn't be opening the door to anyone and he could do as he liked, he told me that they would kick my door in to get my possessions and take them to auction, told him again not a chance, it is now monday and i have still not received anything from them so lets see what wednesday brings shall we.

I have 2day been to see another solicitor who is going to do some investigating and try and find out if there is a group etc with people having the same kind of problem and get other people on side, some of the others that have approached me and have heard from my solicitor already i have heard nothing and i have been recording any conversations i have with these people but oopps forgot to tell them i'd recorded the conversation maybe my solicitor will tell them when she has listened to it again. :rotfl:
  • I have received many phone calls from various 'charity' publications. They are usually from a person of north east origin and begin 'This is *insert name* from the police. Don't worry you're not in trouble! How are you today?' (Wait for response) 'I'd just like to take this opportunity to thank you for helping us with the *insert name* campaign which has been a big success and was wondering if we could count on your support again?' (Alarm bells! What campaign? I don't remember this. Although I have been very busy and might have agreed to something etc).

Thankfully I have become wise to these calls now but there is another which appears to be more professional and it's now only after being sent a third invoice from them that the alarm bells have begun to ring.

Quality Care based in the Wirral purport to produce a wall planner on behalf of the Disabled Adventure Club. I have asked them on several occasions for a copy of this planner and have yet to be sent one (surprise surprise). They have had around £500 from me and are now demanding another £250. I have contacted the Disabled Adventure Club (a registered charity) and made them aware of the problem with this company. They have confirmed a connection with Quality Care and have told me they will investigate.

In the meantime am I the only one who is being pestered by this company?

...a person of north east origin? Aberdeen...ish perhaps?
  • Below is the complete record of the recent run in I have had with Safety Planners Ltd:

    · Paul Thompson - 07771728183 called my mobile @ 12:49pm (8/12/10)

A caller claiming to be from Safety Planners Ltd called about the "Crime Prevention Booklet" called thanking me for my support and to say that I will be taken off the National Charity Database when my details have been confirmed by Paul's Supervisor. Apparently after I had completed this process I should have been receiving an E-mail with a certificate attached. I was also going to be sent an invoice for £100 for advertisement as well as the final artwork for the "Crime Prevention Booklet" AFTER I had paid the total amount.

I did question the initial £100 charge for an order I placed saying that I don't remember ever agreeing to pay for an advertising space in there "Crime Prevention Booklet" . But I thought I would hold my complaints about this possible misunderstanding for Paul's Supervisor as the conversation was going nowhere with Paul.

    · Unknown caller - Unknown Possibly Withheld number phoned my mobile @ 12:57pm. (8/12/10)

    · Unknown caller - Unknown Possibly Withheld number phoned my mobile @ 1:10pm. (8/12/10)

    · Unknown caller - Unknown Possibly Withheld number phoned my mobile @ 1:18pm. (8/12/10)

    · Paul Thompson - 07771728183 called my mobile @ 3:07pm. (Personal Mobile) (8/12/10)

Phoned me but I missed the call.

    · Paul Thompson - 07771728183 text my mobile with the following message @ 3:07pm. (8/12/10)

"Jay if u dont pick up they cant take u off the database they wil stil take payment and u wil stil get calls"

    · I then replied @ 6:10 (8/12/10) with the following:

"Sorry don't answer unknown & possibly withheld numbers, their usually Publication Scammers on the other end. However if you colleague would like to contact me on a unwithheld number then I would be more than happy to talk to them"

    · Paul Thompson - 07771728183 called my mobile @ 6:11pm (8/12/10)

Asking why I was not answering his supervisors calls, I told him that I do not answer Unknown Callers on my mobile. He then went on to say that there must be a problem with the telephone switchboard at his company (unlikely). Then went onto say that he would call tomorrow morning.

    · Paul Thompson - 07771728183 called my mobile @ 12:40pm (9/12/10)

Asking why I have not been answering his supervisors calls again, I said I had received none appart from the withheld number yesterday. I told him that I had been reading about a people having problem with Safety Planners Ltd. and a 'Crime Prevention Booklet' and he said there is a load going around but him and the company he worked for was not one of them. He then said "You cant tarnish me with the same brush" LOL

I then said that I had received no artwork or invoice for this order. He then went onto say that I had received their artwork and gave his company my go ahead. I said that I never received any artwork from them and there must have been a misunderstanding. I then went on to say would not be paying any invoice until I see some hard proof like an invoice or some artwork.

He then got really rude saying that I was a liar about not receiving any artwork and started shouting at me down the phone. Then said I remember me agreeing for you (Paul) to remove my details from the charity database but not to advertising in your booklet. He continued to be rude and shout at me.

Then I told him under immense pressure to go ahead with the payment (The card details I gave him were fake). But If I never received any evidence of the order after payment then I would be chasing Safety Planners Ltd. through trading standards. I then went on to ask him for his full name and company of which he was either reluctant to give it up or did not know it too well.

Then I had to really coax him for his companies full postcode to that he replied "I can't remember it". I then said "I want the full postcode please" to which he replied "You are really taking the !!!! now" and went down some stairs (toke the mobile with him) to go a get it for me LOL. I got the full postcode, then he hung up.

Its safe to say he and his company were definatly trying to scam me, either that or this Paul went to one of the worst customer service training class ever concieved LOL.

I have had no calls so far and I dont expect I will, It'll be invoices from now on. They will be going straigh to Trading Standards and Consumr Direct.

I will keep you posted with any updates on this matter and thanks for reading this long !!! post lol
  • Paul "Richards" called me from Safety Planners Ltd back in early November. I am not ashamed to admit that I got caught out once and paid a scammer (got it back through the bank) but this Mr Richards had the credit card number and 'password' that I gave to the original company. Since I had never dealt with Safety Planners at all, I told him to sue me for it. He claimed he had me on tape blah blah and that he would just run the card. I told him it was cancelled and that he could run it as many times as he liked. He hung up on me when I mentioned the involvement of the Police and the Trading Standards.

Today I received and recorded a call from "Carl" Richards from Safe and Sound Ltd. He too had the same credit card number and password. He tried the tactic of "we have you on tape" and he got really aggressive when I told him that I had cancelled the card and he threatened to play the tape to the bank. I told him to go right ahead and see how far it gets you.

Clearly this Paul Thompson/Paul Richards/Carl Richards are all the same person/company and he is desperate to get as much as he can from the easy mark. I may have been gullible once but that was then and this is now.

Incidentally, yesterday I received a bogus invoice from CPA Media Ltd and today I have also had bogus calls from T-Mobile (x1), Forrester Fund for Children (x2) and Vardis/Vision Publishing (x1). I guess that I am a magnet for these maggots.

Take care - pay nothing - agree nothing over the telephone. Greater Manchester Police regularly receive the audio recordings that I make and one day someone will act.

    David.
  • "The Fairfield Group" are now attempting this same scam.

My wife took a call on the 3rd of December along the exact same lines as other detailed here, namely advertising in the "Police CGB Publication". She expressed an interest but wanted to see something in writing first.

Their idea of "something in writing" was a "Confirmation Of Order" followed by an invoice for ~£100 and "artwork" that looked as if it had been created by a 3 yr old in MS Word.

Have spoken to West Sussex Police, TAPA and Consumer Direct and am writing a letter to The Fairfield Group politely detailing why they can go and get f***ed.
