We have had exactly the same problem, with both ESM and BCS Multimedia. We had an original invoice of £341.25 which I refused to pay as we had not asked for the advert, they called in January threatening legal action and I said go ahead, as we never ordered this advert, have never seen proof that it has even been published anywhere, and refused to pay. TODAY we have received a claim Form from Liverpool County Court for £1574.65 we have 28 days to dispute the claim but really need some help here as don't know how to handle this and can't afford to get a judgment against us. HELP

I'd say the first step would be to contact Liverpool County Court and make sure there has been a claim filed and that they've not just filled in the paperwork and mailed it to you.

Same thing here, requested details for us to consider, received invoice for £90 then late payment invoice for £400, with threats of legal action. Little do they know they dealt with one of our branches thinking we were just a tiny business; we're not. Looks like they are targeting small businesses [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM] into making payments. The matter was passed to our head office and we won't be tolerating it.

They placed an initial phone call to one of our branches promising the earth, then made a separate phone call to request details to send a quote. Watch their wording if you talk to them as they claim they recorded the call when we contacted them. Funny how they didn't record the first call where they promised to send someone to our business to take photos etc. When we phoned them about this they completely denied this.

We had a call from someone selling advertising space in the local police initative magazine.

We have been in touch with our local police to find out if this is genuine and they have confirmed that this is a SCAM.

I have been in touch with Liverpool County Court who have confirmed that this is a genuine claim, I have 14 days to respond not sure what to do as we can't afford to go to court or have a CCJ against us. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks

If you haven't agreed to anything then let them take you to court.

Calls from Diamond Media have stopped and been replaced by calls from a company called "Skyline". Same people, same scam.

Avoid like the plague at all costs.

i am having the same trouble since feb this year claimed to be the police to me etc....now i am being hassled by cf&l for nearly 5 times the first bill.
i have reported them to the police and trading standards and consumer direct etc.

[TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM] I was suspicious when they said I would only pay when I received work from the advert then I receive an invoice for payment I wrote to complain and now I have received invoice for four times the original amount I have contacted the Trading Standards the Police and Office of Fair Trading I received a magazine with my advert in and contacted other advertisers in the magazine only to find that they did not pay for advertising [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM]

RW - Telephone Publishing Scam @ Farm @ Brinklow Incid 96 13/7/2010

On both the 12th & 13th July 2010 a farm house @ Brinklow near Rugby was contacted by telephone the male caller stated he was calling on behalf of the local PCSO and Farm Watch and asked for a financial contribution to a magazine they were publishing. Upon declining the offer the phone was slammed down. It is believed the first call was made from a call centre.

Warwickshire Police do not sell advertising space by cold calling people, and such calls should be treated with extreme caution.
