How much does it cost to keep a cat?

despite my huge post above- just re-read it and realised i havent properly answered your question
sometimes, during an outbreak of FAD, a single shot of steroids is enough to calm the skin. the initial irritation is caused by the flea saliva from the bite. the animal will the itch/scratch/bite the area in question. this can lead to secondry problems, such as skin infections. therefore, more medication may be needed. some animals seem more prone to severe attacks than others. in extreme cases, the scratching can escalate to become a behavioural problem.
however, if your cat is newly aquired, it may be that his problems are just ongoing from being in a rehoming centre, ie- he was in close proximity to a lot of cats there, and im sure he will have picked up the odd flea fairly regularly, which each time, will have started the cycle of itching again.
so hopefully things will settle down now that he lives with you.
(so long as you keep up the frountline)
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

I'm so frustrated! My sis and I have been hoping to get a cat for over a year now, and have just moved to a home where our landlady is amenable of us getting a cat. We've slowly built up kitty supplies, and had a home visit from the shelter. I hadn't heard back from them, so emailed to ask when we could come to look at cats, and got a sniffy email back saying we weren't suitable, as there was a risk of a cat jumping out of our windows (we're on the 1st floor)! I know they want to find the right home for their cats, but are they honestly saying they'll only house bungalows and bunkers? In all other respects we're pretty suitable (have had plenty of pets before, happy to adopt an older cat, responsible), and I feel like they're being so particular that they won't end up homing any of their cats, because no-one will fit their criteria! Sorry to rant, but I was so hoping to be welcoming a kitty this weekend...2015 comp wins - £370.25

Thanks for all your tips on here, we have rehomed 3 kittens and here are some piccies:
The first two kittens, Misty (tabby) and Bob were dumped at a local vets by a lady who said she could not cope with them. They are gorgeous and have been with us for 2 weeks.
The 3rd kitten, called Diesel joined us yesterday from a local rehoming centre, his mum was feral and it was touch and go whether we would have him as he was very poorly and was in an isolation unit for awhile. He is fine now, although very sensitive to any diet changes. He is very affectionate and loving.
Thanks for all the great tips on here, just insured Misty with M&S and will follow up tomorrow on the phone with them to insure the other 2. Next it's the jabs - all the best Welshy x and kittens xxxxxI am the only Voucher Queen in my village LOL

just kick it out an let it go catch mice for sustinance. thats the only thing they do right. if theyre not doin that then theyre sleepin. cant see the point in em miself. get a dog. at least a dog will do as you tell it. wont feel an urge to fetch dead animals as presents and doesnt need a stinking litter tray.0 -

I just had to say that I think my cat was a dog in a former life. :rotfl: Shes not a house cat but she does have the run of the porch, when we are eating I don't like her being in the kitchen as she's always after a fussing. If the kitchen door is open and she wanders in all I have to say to her is "out", in a nice quiet voice, I don't have to shout it or chase her out she just goes, just like a dog would. She won't do it for hubby though, only me
Strange or what?:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -

Please don't get a cat, all they do is kill countless wildlife and sh*t in other peoples gardens.
And when you complain cat owners become indignant because they think their cat has greater rights over your garden than you do.
Their little darling is aloud to torture and kill birds and small mammals because 'its their nature'.0
