Injections once a year cost about £50 per cat. Varies from vet to vet.
I buy 'spot-on' de-flea stuff from vets, that's expensive at £13 for 3 vials.
NOTE ALL - there are loads of online stores that you can get the same Frontline products from direct, for 1/2 the price of your vets. ie http://www.petvetcare.co.uk/acatalog/Frontline_For_Cats.html
There are loads more sites and you may be able to get them for even less, but £16 for 6 vials (free p&p) is pretty darn good, that is almost half your money saved, and you don't have to go to the local vet to get them!!0 -
HI, iv just got a kitten myself on quite a budget and it is possible. if you shop around litter can be bought for just £1.20 for ten litres this lasts a week or two depending on your cat. food can be bought for 80p a box of biscuits or 1.88 for six tins this is own brand food but my cat loves it and she couldnt be healthier. all the accessories are cheap enough if you look around and worming tablets can be bought online i use petmeds. they charge around £5.00 for six months of tablets (this lasts longer once the cat is older as they dont need as much).
the main expense is vets bills neutering which i am currently braving the cost of myself and flea injections.
my vet charged £30 for vaccinations against all the diseases with a yearly booster.
i would estimate a first yearly budget of around £500 plus any nuetering.
even on the budget the cat can be happy as larry. my last cat lived till a brillaint 20human years and couldnt of been happier and always got the cheapest food etc going.
one last tip send of for as many free samples as poss it all helps. and local vets often give freebies too. good luck0 -
Just got for my kitten Petplan insurance yearly it worked out at £105 but going through quidco means I get £25 cashback
pets at home vets companion care do a free microchip if you have the kittens course of vaccinations with them from memory its around £57

WELSH-DRAGON wrote: »Thanks for all your tips on here, we have rehomed 3 kittens and here are some piccies:
The first two kittens, Misty (tabby) and Bob were dumped at a local vets by a lady who said she could not cope with them. They are gorgeous and have been with us for 2 weeks.
The 3rd kitten, called Diesel joined us yesterday from a local rehoming centre, his mum was feral and it was touch and go whether we would have him as he was very poorly and was in an isolation unit for awhile. He is fine now, although very sensitive to any diet changes. He is very affectionate and loving.
Thanks for all the great tips on here, just insured Misty with M&S and will follow up tomorrow on the phone with them to insure the other 2. Next it's the jabs - all the best Welshy x and kittens xxxxx
This thread has been on here awhile and just flicking back saw my previous post, sadly Diesel the grey and white kitten died in October 2008 even now seeing his picture gets to me - still miss him tonnes. He was such a lovely chap who did his bit for recycling by bringing in scraps of plastic and getting all excited. Bob and Misty missed him enormously and they have now been joined by a British Blue kitten called Eddie

my 2 babies cost me:
at least £5 on wet food each per week
about a pound on dry a week
a big bag of litter a month (they don't go out at night)
£6 a month on insurance each(trust me i,d get this if you're short of cash!)
about £25 each on vaccinations a year not inc leukaemia jab
about £5 a month on flea and worming stuff
roughly £30 per cat per 5 days at the cattery
and lastly you'll easily spend £100 on bedding and luxuries for your lovelies!!!0 -
Hi all
Quick question relating to the wood pellets. Don't know if it's been asked/mentioned as there is alot of posts.
Are they dearer/cheaper than usual litter? I normally pay £7 for a 20kg bag (for litter) and from hearing about how wood pellets reduce smell I would really like to change to them.
Any help is appreciated,

if you do a search on this forum you will find lots of comments on cheap places & comparisons about litter!0 -
Here's my monthly costs excluding yearly jabs:
Insurance for 13yo = £19.50
Insurance for 14yo = £27.55
Food = £20.00 ish
Litter tray liners = £7.00
Litter = £50.00 ish (currently being reviewed!)
so that's about £125 a month
yes...i know the litter is pricey...hence my thread on economising0 -
hmm - not many people could afford to keep their cat in that style. Have you considered not changing the litter as much & dispensing with the liners?0
