My MIL (aged 68) has got her trip to Florida booked with SIL, (2 weeks in September) and has just been quoted £1000 for travel insurance just for her! She is Type 2 diabetic and takes medication for high blood pressure but it's not drastically high IYSWIM.
I've had a look at a couple of other travel insurance sites but no luck so far - can anyone suggest any good sites/companies please?
She has been to Florida twice previously but never had to pay that amount!

Hi
it seems once people get past a certain age the premiums fly through the roof
have you tried bupa ? they will quote if you have medical conditions but they may charge extra to cover them.0 -
This might be worth trying for a quote http://www.thebmc.co.uk/modules/insurance/Landing.aspx.................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Thank you for those suggestions - will pass them on to SIL to check - it's amazing how much travel insurance costs once you are over a 'certain age'!
I'll keep looking too, beats doing the ironing!:j Almost 2 stones gone! :j

Diabetes UK do travel insurance.
If you go to the MSE Travel forum, this thread is about insurance for older travellers/pre-existing conditions. It's a relatively new thread but this older thread has 17 pages with lots of suggestions and advice.
If it was me I think I would have enquired about travel insurance before booking considering the pre-existing conditions and age.0 -
Flexicover is good for anyone up to 84. A number of the banks have fee payable current accounts which include travel insurance. HSBC for a year worked out £2 less than Flexicover for us. OH has diabetes 2 and hypertension.
My neighbour uses Lloyds, for a similar scheme.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

If it was me I think I would have enquired about travel insurance before booking considering the pre-existing conditions and age.- she last went to Florida 2 years ago and only paid around £60 IIRC, so didn't think that there would have been such a hike in the premium - nothing in her medical condition has changed, she's just 2 years older now!
Thank you for the links to the threads too - SIL will be busy when she gets home from work tonight!:j Almost 2 stones gone! :j
