Hello, I just wanted to add a few points & details.
It is 100% legal to fund your charity skydive from the money you raise for your chosen cause. As you stated before as long as you declare to your sponsors that some of the money covers the cost of the jump.
There are strict guidelines to ensure that the correct ratio's of return are guaranteed for the charity. This is a tried & tested method of fundraising with 100,000 of people jumping every year for 1000's of charities up & down the country.
The Red Devils will be working with many of those charities over this coming year. The team are set to be working with over 30 Military charities funds & associations in 2009, with over 150 Civilian Charities also along for the ride.
Total cost is £290 per skydive. (Of which a £90 reservation fee is payable at time of booking)
Minimum average sponsorship amount set by the charities is £500.
If this entire amount is eligible for Gift Aid at 28% the charity could receive as much as £350 for all of your efforts. The highest ratio of return available from any other suppliers.

I did a sky dive 2 years ago for MS, I made a point to contribute alot of my own money to cover the cost of the jump. Even though it was covered in the costs, I wanted to tell people that all their money was going to the charity.
It worked well, and I raised over £1000!
Currently training for the London to Paris cycle ride in June!
Collecting for Auditory Verbal UK - just has a cake and collected £300 - not long to go now....:jThanks to all who post comps!

I did mine years ago for the British Lung Foundation. I had to get a minimum of sponsors.
I will say one thing. Do not jump if you have a cold or are just getting over a cold. I did and one ear drum bled and the other was swollen. I temporarily lost my hearing for a while and even now years later if I have a cold my hearing is slightly affected.
On the plus side it was a fantastic experience and if I could do it again I would in a flash0 -
