Mini Rant! ... (if i may) ... and maybe some advice!?

The last time something similar happened to me, I told them that if they didn't get their dog under control I'd take the muzzle off mine and let her get on with it. (I wouldn't be so irresponsible, but it made them get theirs back pretty smartish.)
Some people are idiots, and it's our poor mutts who then get even more freaked out than they were before.
Feel free to rant away - you were right and he's an eejit. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
i would be soooooo angry!!
thing is, thats happened to me so many times, we have a st.bernard, and shes a lovley, friendly, soft house dog. i rarley let her off the lead in open spaces cus i know she wants to say hello to people and dogs, and to be fair, most people would be scared to have a 15 stone dog bounding towards them!! (we exercise in enclosed areas) however, so many times we have walked passed other dogs (when the dog is on a lead) and she has been bitten cus the other dog has felt intimadated, one time we picked her up from kennels after a hol, and she was sat in the back of our car with the back open, the kennels own dog came over and launched at her face!! we were told "dogs arnt robots, and thats how they behave"!! i was fuming! another time a yorkie bit her cheek, for no reason what so ever, and again after a very heated conversation, were told "thats what dogs do", well, my dogs dont then! i only have praise for my dogs- they have never bitten or shown signs of agression, even after being bitten so many times!3 wonderfull kids :female::female::male:, 1 fab hubby
, 2 beautifull cats and 1 very large dog = my family!

I would next respond to him and his dogs (if you see him again)
that it is irresponsible dog owners like that that give good dog owners a bad name.
failing that I would take my phone from my pocket if you ever see them on a walk again and flick the phones camera up and press record, then record his dogs aggressive behaviour towards your dog, deal with the situation (if their is one) and then pay a visit to the local police station to report his animals with the video evidence of their aggression.
(you could also make a note of their license plate to so they can be found)Time to find me again0 -

What a !!!!, but this attitude is so common.
When our Weimmy was younger she was quite timid.
Anyway this idiot of a woman who had a white boxer would walk past us and allow her dog to attack our weimmy, every time. Now our weimmy would be splatted onto the ground and screaming like a banshe.
I would scream at her to keep her dog under control and her answer..... it's only playing??????
This went on for some time until in its haste to get our weimmy it knocked our then 1.5 year old son flying across the ground.
A quick "sorry" in that couldn't care less voice and off she went.
Some people give dogs the bad press that they get, as the old saying goes . It's not the dog it's the owner.0 -
Dog owners annoy the life out of me. Or should I say 'bad' dog owners annoy the crap out of me!!
My black Lab is 20 weeks. She is the bounciest, friendliest little (well, not so little!) thing you'd ever want to meet. We are working on the recall and the jumping up and the desperate pulling to get to ANY dog just so she can say hello! This means that unless we're in an area where we're a distance away from dogs and people, she's put on-lead. If an off-lead dog goes for a dog which is on-lead, then it's the fault of the off-lead dog's owner because they don't have control over it, and that's all part of the dog act thingy.
I would love to have Indy off-lead more, but her over-excitedness doesn't go down well with many breeds of dog. However, I am safe in the knowledge that if she meets another young Lab, the owner is 100% understanding and she gets to 'knock herself out'

At the end of the day if something had happened you had control of your dog. The right way to be in that situation.
Like you i have some lovely walks and i love to let me dog off its lead. Like Bosun my dog Rascal loves playing and greeting other owners and dogs as well so if i see anyone coming i pop he's lead on. Occasionally i get caught by surprise and Rascal starts to greet another dog or owner in his over excited way (not aggressive). I quickly get the lead back on and apologise as not everyone appreciates his love and affection the way i do.
The guy was a muppet but as my Dad always says 'there's nowt stranger than folk'.0 -
I had something a little similar but involving a very stupid woman and her poor children...I have 2 giant breeds, both with wonderful natures, wouldnt say boo to a goose and love to say hello... They were both on leads and we were walking around a local park when the said stupid woman was coming towards us....Now I admit my lads are big lads but thats no excuse for her behaviour..my lads paid no attention to her as they were more interested in the ducks on the pond...when all off a sudden she started screaming and pulled her children to the edge of the path...me and the lads spun round thinking something disastrous had happened and she shouted..''oh my god..oh my god..kids...come here..their pit bulls..their pit bulls..they'll attack and kill you if you go near them...''
Looking frantically around, I said ''christ..where..where'' and she pointed at my 2 Mastiffs!!!!!! Her children were terrified and they had no need to be...she needed to take some valium or just get a life in general....I gave her a piece of my mind and told her that she had frightened my dogs and her children...STUPID COW..she stated that she was going to report me for having dangerous dogs....BRING IT ON I told her...I still laugh now when I look at my 2 and think that anyone could mistake them for pit bulls!!!!

Hmmm...interesting people out there or what??
My dog (RIP my little sugerlump...which was not his name by the way) was on the lead at a dog friendly beach in summer down south. And a giant dog (I can't remember what it was) came bounding over. Now my rescue dog HATED other dogs, unfortunately he was part bull terrier and could lock his jaws (and part lab we think).
However, we were in the process of teaching him to ignore other dogs and the first wave by said big dog was ignored (much to my amazement)! Then it appeared from behind grabbed my dog by the head (puncturing his head) and then did one (lucky for it) before I or my dog could grab it!
There was no owner around and my dog was bleeding pretty badly. Needless to say that ended the outing so we could go find a vet. On the way off the beach however, I saw the dog with a family in one of those beach hut things. I went over asked if it was there dog and then proceeded to rip a strip of them.
They politely informed me that if I had socialised MY dog better something like that would never have happened! Grrrrr....Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £2.36 July 25
% of house owned/% of mortgage paid off. July 25 - 38.82%/31.66%
