Tiscali - am having issues with leaving

I have a Broadband & phone package with Tiscali which includes line rental and free weekend calls for £14.99. Price is good but customer service is very poor. My contract expires end of Jan and so have decided to move back to BT for phone and take out Broadband with O2 (have O2 mobile so get cheaper rate :D . Can only move to O2 once I have a BT line.

My issue is that Tiscali tell me that as mine is a bundled package I can only move all or nothing. I had wanted to change phone line to BT, have Tiscali carry on providing Broadband until I am able to transfer to O2. As I thought that Tiscali were just using this as a tactic to keep me, I called BT. Having spoken to BT they confirm that due to the way the line is set up in my area to change Broadband provider, either phone & broadband has to go to one provider (eg BT) or I can wait till my Tiscali package is cancelled and my phone transferred to BT (all due to happen on 29/1) before requesting broadband from O2.

As I don't want to stay with Tiscali my only option is latter which will leave me without broadband for about 10 days. Tiscali refuse to continue the broadband in isolation without starting a new 12 month contract.

Has anyone had a similar experience and knows how to avoid a period without broadband access?

Thanks
rups

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Never had this myself, but this does illustrate the downside of going for package deals with the likes of Talk Talk,Tiscali, et al.
Maybe if you have a friendly neighbour you could you camp on their wireless broadband.

More importantly, can you actually get BT Broadband without entering a long term contract?

No, asked BT already. No short term broadband contracts, only dial-up!

I have been with AOL for a long time and the deal they offered me in the summer was £6.99 month for faster broadband(this is a myth) plus free telephone calls except 0845 and 0870 but they said I had to use BT for line rental. I found that BT were charging for calls as AOL had not contacted them. This only went on for a couple of weeks - we are very low phone users anyway. I tried to get AOL to sort themselves out but then decided to use my old supplier, Primus, for the calls. Last month was only £2.50.

So, you could try AOL for a cheap deal and go to BT for line rental. If you have paperless billing with BT the line rental is about £11.

I bought a SONY laptop and it is as fast I could posibly need now on the wireless system.

When the BT 12 months is up I will try and get a full package which I prefer although I have read that it is probably a good idea to have BT for line rental
    in case of breakdowns.
  • you have a full LLu line so only choice if you want to leave Tiscali is lose broadband after your new phone privider starts service and then order broadband or because you have LLU you can request a "sim provide" this does not have to BT Retail broadband. When you place your order with BT retail ask for a sim provide with non BT broadband ref number. give the number to your chosen isp and the broadband is added to the order and all will be provided on same day.
not many isps offer this though but worth a try
Not all isps participate so depends who you choose.
