I will admit - the design is great - it looks amazing.

However, no matter how much I look at that and how I cut it - I can't think of a way that this would be financially beneficial to me or a charity helping deal with AIDS, TB and malaria (which is what this group is set up for).

IF I was going to donate to one of those charities - the best deal I could do (assuming it was through use of a credit card) would be to take out an AmEx platinum, spend £10k on it (giving me £115 cashback) and then give it to a UK charity with gift aid - giving them £147 (and refunding you an extra £26 if you are a higher rate payer)

In order to donate the same amount to this charity - I'd have to spend an extra £3k on the red card above the original £10k.

Obviously - I could donate more if I spent more - but I'm just using £10k as an example figure.

    Having said that ...

There are these 'red extras' on it which have yet to be announced - so there's some scope for the extra bits to make it worthwhile.

Still - it does look good ....

  • Hmmm. I think this article sums it up for me.

Yeah, absolutely (cool) design - metallic red (no doubt made of PVC), but do I want to use a card that, lets face it, is hardly going out of its' way to donate to the poor and sick of the world?

Put a tenner a month to the charity by Direct Debit, with Gift Aid. There. Sorted.

Now, if only Egg were to bring out a red coloured Egg Money card... ;)
