Good luck!:j If I may add a little more advice if you need it?

Be aware that 'the manager' you first get at the CS desk will be whoever is Duty Manager that day. It could well be someone from a specific Dept where they would not be expected to have any idea of the correct policy.

Don't be afraid to state what you know. Don't 'ask what their coupon policy is' - that just invites a negative or made-up response, cue you just saying 'oh thanks anyway' and sloping off thinking oh well that's it then.

Word your query as Veggiecar stated earlier and be confident that what you know from here on the good old internet is the correct National Policy - and it's already in the public domain so you are entitled to know it as a Tesco customer. This could be the moment you help your local Tesco to learn the policy for the first time if you play it right.

If the Duty Manager speaks a load of rubbish like 'oh I am pretty sure you have to buy the right product love' then politely restate what you know, say summat like 'Oh, well in fact I know that's not the case, although you would think so wouldn't you? I know the policy and was just hoping to avoid embarrassment at the checkout.'

Or words to that effect. You may be lucky and get a yes straight away (ha ha!). If not, then ask to get it referred up the line and/or ask for a Till Manager's opinion - they should have come across this before even if the Duty Manager hasn't. You are unlikely to get the Store Manager down, as in most stores they pass the buck.

I did all of this last year in my local and they ended up arguing among themselves at first! So I still ended up following it with a letter to the Store Manager, which did the trick and they know the policy now. I felt that even if I had ended up being told a definite 30% max or whatever, at least I would know that the decision came from the Store Manager, which was better than the pot luck I was taking each day and the grief I was getting from some staff.

Just wanted to say thank you for this very helpful advice, sorry I have not thanked you earlier, I don't look at the forums every day, guess i should!

Also wanted to give an update on my coupon experience; basically some good, some bad, even in the same Tescos, it all seems to come down to the individual cashiers, there are some really nice ones who let you use lots of coupons, these tend to be young and male, sorry I am not being ageist/sexist this is just my experience (and I have to add that there was one really nice older lady, also I think it depends on people's characters, whether they are sympathetic to you trying to save money or begrudge every single penny off as if it were their own money!!), the ones that will only take one coupon have generally been older and generally women; so now I try to pick a sympathetic looking cashier!

In one Tesco recently the cashier called over customer services who were very officious and said I could not use my coupon as it was "photocopied" - I explained it was not, it was printed off the internet but they weren't having it, I then had to have a discussion about a Couponnet coupon which had my name on, I had to be a bit assertive and point out my name on it and then they accepted it, they were not very customer friendly - could barely tear themselves away from their interesting conversation at the "customer services" checkpoint to come over and deal with my and the cashier's query...

So am seriously considering your straightforward, upfront approach, as you suggested, would take out the potluck element which depending how I am feeling either adds an extra frisson to the shopping experience or is a real drag.. But you need to feel brave and have lots of time while they get managers etc, talk about you just out of earshot etc, - so am waiting for the right time!!

Anyway, big thank you and to everyone who posts coupons, it is really heartening how kind and generous people are on this website!!

I have been succesful with both of these on 2 occasions.
I would add however that you do have to be careful as to which aisle you choose ie cashier as most in my store are helpful , with the odd ones that as said tend to view it as their own money.

But also a Huge thankyou to everyone who posts the links to the vouchers have found this to be very helpful & friendly.:T
